New scripts for Ships

I have a very cool idea I would like to implement, but it would require some scripting added to a ship. I figure scripts are attached to ships through modules, allowing you to invade and colonize, so I'm wonder if it is possible to alter and rename a current module and its attached script to do some interesting things. Obviouly the capable functions would need to be determined, but I would think it could add and remove ships at the current ships location...

This is a good question--can one make their own scripts to add into the game? (Yes, this is a bump lol... I'm doing a lot of these right now...)
