Treasury bug?

17 million deficit

(The forums suck...I wrote a full post only to have it dissapear with a "could not send post" message...oh well)

Basically, I was playing a Large map with 8 AI races on tough. Only 5 of them remained, and I was building up my influence and converting all their planets. I had about 5000 bc/week of income (after counting all the spending), and had well over 150000 bc in bank. All of the sudden, my treasure goes down to around -17 MILLION bc, and no mather how many turns I pass, it stays there. Basically it screwed my game :/

Here's a screenshot:

Things I did the turn before encountering the bug:

-Finished researching the last tech in the "hull" subtree

-Upgraded a couple of economic starbases

-Finished building a hyperion starship thingy (name escapes me at the moment)

Has anyone encountered this game-breaking bug? Any ideas of what could be the cause?

I just noticed the problems I had with the forums were related to me using firefox. Considering most people use firefox nowadays, you should do something about the compatibility with those users.

Did you try replaying from an earlier save and if so did it repeat?

Well, I was too pissed off (and it was 4 am) so I didn't have the time to test it. I reloaded the last autosave 5 minutes ago, and it was only 3 turns before the bug happened. I wasn't able to reproduce it, though :/

There have been many threads on this topic. Just yesterday, in fact there was one. Lots of people have the mysterious money disappearing scenario happen to them. I just reload, or, if I'm in the mood for a tough game, try to fight my way back.

Coming back from -17 million would certainly be quite a tester.

About the forum bugs...

I am still experiencing a bug where I can't start new threads. It is detailed here. I hope stardock fixes this. I use Firefox, but the forum does not load on MSIE at all and on Netscape it loads but freezes Netscape.

I have found with a lot of forum software, and especially Stardock forums, it is better to write a long post in Notepad or some other text/word processor and copy-paste it in, and either save it or keep it open until after you have verified that the post went through.

i haven't had money disappear on me, but i did notice another money bug. i had decided to upgrade about 100 ships of a certain class to a more modern variant. it was going to cost me something like 250k to do this. so i saved up and saved up until i had the right amount. then i upgraded the ships. but the money was never deducted from my bank. it was nice, but weird.

The only money bug I ever experienced was on the trade screen. I was trading with the Altarians, about 3000 influence points and 200-ish bc for universal translator. What ended up happining was it gave them 3000 bc and 200-ish influence points for universal translator.

I reinstalled the game, and haven't experienced any money bugs since.

Fortunately I've never been that far in the hole... But it usually does end in me not doing so swell and reloading the game from a few turns before the money vanished.

How about this one...I went into the diplomatic trade screen to trade with the Iconians. They had so much money that it couldn't display the number (I didn't write it down, but it was in the millions). So even the computer players evidently overrun the counters sometimes.

Thankfully they have been relegated to a backwater race already, or it might worry me!

if you've got these bugs, you're probably either playing a very old version or the 1.2 beta. they've been reported, acknolwedged, and should be fixed for the final release tomorrow.

the treasury crash is an old bug that somehow crept back in to 1.2b. it hit me as well a couple games ago.

the upgrade bugs are also being addressed (two of them, both the non-deduction from your treasury, and the bug where upgrading the entire class costed more than doing them individually).

finally, i know the bug where AI suddenly gets a huge treasury boost has been reported and pretty thoroughly documented. no idea what it is, i don't remember explicitly reading that it'll be fixed, but i'd guess so.

here's the forum for 1.2 bug reports, if you care to look it over:
