Society Status Report

On Hiatus

Society continues to move along but at a very slow rate.

There's two ways of making a PC game.  You can build a large team and create the game in 18 to 24 months or you can have a smaller team and build it over 36 to 48 months.

Until we recruit more game developers, we're having to take the latter role.

To give you an idea of the scope you have a game that needs a pretty good sized development team for the engine, features, multiplayer.  You also need a very large art team.  But you also have to have a large IT team to build the server infrastructure.

We are in the process of hiring more developers but there will be a ramp up time.  What I want to do is avoid the label of "vaporware" and make sure we're very up front -- we are working on the game but this isn't something that's going to be out next year or something.

We have one full game development team presently at Stardock.  Right now they're working on the expansion pack for Galactic Civilizations II.  Then they will be working on The Political Machine and other expansion packs for GalCiv II.

My job is to help build up the Society team. To find developers who are interested in coming to Plymouth Michigan to make a truly remarkable game.

Stay tuned.

Thanks for the update! I personally don't mind if it takes awhile to create a game, as long as the finished product is...well finished. But With Stardocks reputation I know that Society will be a quality product upon release!

Keep up the good work!

Perhaps if you published something it would help avoid being called vaporware. For example a detialed guide on how you can customise your buildings. I'd like to read that

I was just thinking it would be wonderful to have a cartoony style true 3d city building mmorts, and then this pops up. It will be very fun if it is successful and the expansion packs would let you advance through the ages.

Hello

heard about this game yesterday.. just wanted to say that it sounds great, and that i would like to help you out with a beta, i'm afraid i'm not living close to plymouth, so i can't really help with the development of the game, but i would like to be a part of the beta.

regards "TheLand"

Now, i heard/read that subscribers will have the first chances to beta test Society later this year. Now, if this is true, would there be any chance that a select few who have been following the game since very early 2005 would be able to get on the beta as well? The more i read about Society, the more i want to play it (and improve it if possible).

Either way, keep us posted, new screens are always welcomed

Wow!! That will be the first time after some years that I will enjoy a game, and believe me, I played most. As long as it is as I imagined it from what i got from the pics and reviews . Anyhow, I love and always did love a lil bit cartoonist graphics, enjoy online games but most of all empire building games (my friends never play against me, to imagine)... Well I hope the game goes well!!

Do the devs or anyone from Stardock still read these forums? Would love to get an update on the games status. As poss can show, i've been following this game for i believe 2 years now, still eagerly awaiting its release (or the beta )

The things I've read in the introduction page are things I've been looking for in a game for a long time. I hope it will be as good as it sounds and that it won't look to cartoonish when it's finished because I prefer games that are/look realistic(no magic).

You mentioned that your looking for developers that want to move to Michigan. Have you considered developers who would work virtually?

I realise Stardock has Society on the backburner because of resources... It's been a year since anything was posted here however. Surely there has been SOME progress Stardock? Surely you can tantalise me with some news or share an update on when this game will begin to ramp up in the development schedule?

I just found out about this game, and I'm already hooked. There are some things in the gaming world that would cause me to get really excited about a game, and designing my own village from the ground level up is one of them. My sister is big in infrastructure development and research, but not on combat, so the three-province model would work for her. All in all, I'm glad I just found out about this game, instead of having to wait as long as some of these other people have. ^_~ I'm a fan of fantasy strategy like Kohan and Age of Wonders, but I have to say that this project is far more interesting. I'd get the premium package, without a doubt.

Soooo.... since Elemental (in whatever shape you perceive it to be) is "out" now, what are the chances of picking this back up?

I would like to know this as well, it would be awesome if the game was still in development.
