Adjusting XML files

Hi all,
I'm adjusting the Terran Alliance to be more like the Earth Alliance from Babylon 5. So far I've had success with changing the race logos, race images, ship models (including the XML files for them)
My problem is the raceconfig.xml. I've tried renaming the Terrans as Earth Alliance, no luck. I've tried to change the text, no luck. I don't know why they won't change, the other races details change when I retype them but not the terrans. (is it because they have a default setting somewhere for the campaign?) I also tried adjusting details in the mapraceinfo.XML to no avail.
Am I looking in the wrong place? Please note I am very computer illiterate so simple straightforward answers would be appreciated. (it took me 3 weeks to get the starfury working - LOL)
