RV's: Should a 35 year old get a Recreational Vehicle?

Anybody here have an RV? I was always interested in traveling with family and friends to some far flung place. My friends and colleagues think its strange for a 30 year old to want a Nissan minivan as his first car (or van depending on how you look at it).

That's years away for me (mostly because I am starting my life REALLY late). I'll get a 2 door car before a minivan because of cost.

Anyway, anyone here have a RV? Home school their kids? Own a small business that they operate out of their RV?

I've got a feeling Mark & Cricket will spend some time in a sanitarium after living in an RV with 2 kids for an extended period.

My wife home schools our son who is now 13 and has been home schooled since 3rd grade (5 years). When we decided to do this our main concern as with most people was about the "socialization" that he would miss out on not being in a public school. I'm happy to report this has not been even a minor problem. To give you an example on our street there are 16 children of school age. Of those 16 children only 3 go to public school. Home schooling has become VERY popular. There are many support groups available for home schoolers and other opportunities such as 4H. We joined the local YMCA so that he could participate in team sports and our County also has good programs available. The real trick is having someone at home to do it. My wife was a high school teacher for 10 years before she quit to stay at home and home school. When we did the financial math the loss in income was not nearly as big a deal as most people think.

Back to the RV part.....I can't see this being good for the kids because there's definitely going to be a lack of socializtion in their case. No chance to make permanent friends or establish any ties outside the immediate family for the kids. The parents have already made those connections in their life. The result is they will become their children's entertainment. I give them kudos for trying and hope they have relatives who can keep the kids while they recover.

Let put it this way... if I had one, it would be parked ALL the time in what is known as a trailer park.

Not exactly what I have in mind when I think of RV.

A "recreational vehicle" where I live is a *Dirt Bike, Dune Buggy, ATC, Quad Runner, Jet Ski, Boat, etc..etc...Even though "RV" stands for it, and is what it means..LoL, I just dont think of them as "Recreational", they are usually a vehicle that transports the real "RV's" to where ever the fun is going to be..

I owned an RV when I was in my 20's, I really dont think you have to be a certain age to have one... I would be more concerned if you were like "80" looking to buy one of the popular and very fast sports cars..LMAO..then I would think there is definitely a problem there!
