What would you pay good money for in an expansion? (The unofficial inquiry)

What would you pay good money for in an expansion? (The unofficial inquiry)

Yes I did use the search feature!

Essentially make a list of things in an expansion pack that would make you want to pay Stardock money (put "would be nice" things in a separate list)

Edit:
Yay!!! The forum will let me edit my posts now!

Anyway my thanks to whoever stickied this.

Feel free to post whatever you desire in future expansion packs, even if it has already been suggested (that shows that many people want said feature). Also don't feel compelled to browse through the previous pages of this thread.

My are:
The standard ones (often mentioned)
1. Better diplomacy, so that diplomacy is the game withing the game (May be EU type of dipo with peace treaties like they have)
2. Tactical combat

Nonstandard, but very important for me:
1. Some map objects which slow down or even stop and accelerate the ship movement, stable wormholes. These things should be placed on map when map is generated, and can not be removed. They should not be just randomly placed, there could be walls of those things.
2. Ability to build similar things by constructors (like mine field prevents entering to that space). Warp-holes that have entrance at the planet, and exit in some place in space
3. AI effectively using these things.

1 ) Multiplayer
2 ) Tactical Combat
3 ) AI tweaks
4 ) New Ship parts (hulls)

In that order. Sorry for all the multiplayer-haters/deniers... but if the expansion was -simply multiplayer- and nothing else, I'd pay $20 for that. That's how much it means to me.

Don't worry though, it'll never happen. Just showing my support.

What about carrier hulls?

Implementation might be somewhat annoying, but it'd be nifty to be able to pack tiny "fighters" with decent weapons (and no engines) into a carrier hull.

I'd like to see two more governors. The first would be a global way of changing all planets auto update and auto terraforming state at the same time. Also it appears that currently if you have auto update off when you finish researching a tech that would otherwise have caused an update, you don't automatically get the update once auto update is turned back on.

The second governor I'd like to see would be one that could send different ships to different rally points (All transports to Rally 1, all fighter II to rally 2, etc).

More meaningful espionage. At the moment, it is a bit of a moneydump that ever so often lets something happen at random with no input from the player and no indication that the level of funding of espionage was at all important. Minimal funding or full funding? What difference does it make except for how much money you pay per turn? How does the supposedly devious Drath orchestrate play to their supposed strength of espionage when this aspect of the game is for all practical purposes missing as a strategic element of policy. This really is an area of the game that is ripe for further development.

(1) Better Ship Jewelery so you can make Star Trek, Star Wars, and UFO ships. Right now being limited to the one saucer shape is a joke.

(2) More combat options such as Sensors that affect combat, Stealth, Fighters/Carriers, Mines, Star Gates, etc

(3) Have Constructor Built Star bases show up on the map and use COLOR CODING!

(4) Ability to put color coded symbols on the map so you can designate areas and borders as well as areas that need attention.

(5) Built-in ship hulls that are MINIMAL SIZE so ship creations are not ruined by the basic hull.

(6) Ability to switch a hull from medium to large or huge or vice versa. (Mid Game) I really want to use the two excellent Star Trek Hulls and not be limited to the early part of the game!!

(7) Ability to change the game in Mid-Game. I am tired of spending a week on a game only to have the opponents fold and you being left with a powerful empire and nowhere to go!!

(8) Ability to have an awesome, all out battle at the end of the game - IF DESIRED. A Invading Doomsday machine, for example.

Being able to truly customize ship types and weapons

Make large ships be capable of being Carriers: (would be a research item)
Leaving more room on tiny ships for weapons and defenses (wouldn't need engines ect)
Carriers would give bonus to defense and offense of fighters
Only range of Carrier would matter on main map (fighters would be carried inside)

Make varients of weapons: (you choose improvement not just reduction in size)
Autofire: 3x shots per round with less damage per shot
Armour piercing defeats armor defense
Point defense weapons that could target enemy fighters (smaller size)
Mirv warhead design: One missle could target multiple targets

Allow ships to target multiple targets when more than one weapon is equiped.
This would make Battleships much more versatile and survivable

I'd be willing to pay anything for multiplayer for this game. It's an amazingly addictive game and I have loved playing it, but honestly, at this point the game is nothing more than a time filler when I'm waiting to play a different game with my friends...

There are 6 people I play games online with regularly, and they have all tried this game and loved it, but refused to buy it if they can't play it with other people. Honestly - I'd pay for the game all over again just for multiplayer. Don't need anything fancy like a big online lobby system... just direct IP connection or LAN works. I'd even settle for hotseat.

The first three of these are diplomatic menu requests.

A "Stop building cultural starbases in my territory". The Arceans are the major offenders of this one.

A "Accept or I go to war" button.

A "Get out of my territory NOW" button.

The last one is the ability to completely annihilate a colony from orbit. I don't want to have to invade and take it over in order to kill the people. This is especially true for planets with capitals.

All great ideas, these I am about to post have probably been sugested numbeus times but I don't care!

- New races: self explanitory
- Scenario Editor: like in age of empires, or rise of nations.
- Update the Races from GC2: I didn't like how some races had the same ship styles the only civilizations with their own styles were the dregins and the dread lords.
- Carrier module: I want to be able to carry tiny fighters in larger vehicles, that would be so cool! Plus, no more escorts slowing down your doomsday machines on the way to decemate the enemy!
- Better Race Costomization: this was my favourite part of the game, I'm serious.
- AI coustomization: if you want'em bone stupid, you can, if you want to fight the Q continume, whats stopping ya!
- Expanded ship costomization: MORE MORE MORE!
- Diplomacy: Threats, bribes you name it,
- Functional ships: like shuttles or farries,

Thats all for now, what do you think?

A startbase manager page like the colony manager would be nice. Across the top you'd have trade/economy/inf etc and under each it'd have x/y. X being how many of that type of module you have and Y being how many of that type you have the tech to add. E.g

base name trade economy beam attack shields armour etc.
base201 3/3 4/6 1/6 6/6 0/6

base 201 has maxed out trade modules, 4 out of 6 possible economy modules etc.

You should also be able to highlight module types which would cause idle constructors to be send and automatically upgrade with the next module of that type untill it's maxed out. Ideally you'd be able to selet multiple module types. E.g

base name trade economy beam attack shields armour etc.
base201 3/3 4/6* 1/6* 6/6 0/6

Idle constructors will be send to base201 untill it's economy and beam attack modules are maxed out. This selection should stay untill unclicked and would automaticly send a new constructor when a new module is unlocked.

New rallypoint type: Idle constructor. Only for constructors, this rallypoint makes ships availible for the use of the starbase manager.

Unrelated to starbases:
At high levels of spying you should get a more detailed report on enemy civs: What they are currently researching, most powerfull ship, richest/most productive.most reasearching planet, current weapon/def focus (e.g will new ships be built with beams+pd or mass drvs + armour?), are they focusing on lots of little ships or a few huge ones, list of planets with super special tiles like 700% bonuses or precursor artifacts etc. It should also be possible to spy on minor races.

I would like to have

- Tactical Combat

- More defense posibilities for planets

- More modding for starbases - hitpoints etc.
Better special effects for the weapons.
Make trade worthwhile
keep improving the AI
make evil drawbacks more fierce
have more effects of the weapons you pick. (ie make lasers improve soldiering, missles improve engines .... etc)

don't have interest in senarios. That's the kind of thing the user community should be able to develop IMHO.

Id like to be able to see what my espionoge is doing to hurt oponents. maybe even spend money to increase security like in SP2. mabye even sending security to allies to help protect them from the enemy.

Possable be able to have more options to "talk" to the AI. like asking what there goals are, anything they need or want to help them out ect like in CIV 4.

Back in Pax Imperia you had to deal with a specific area of planets you could work with. like dealing with the atsmophere and the heat/cold I dont know if anyone played that. actually there are alot of featers id like to see from PI. that was fun to play. i remember getting several of my friends together and playing that...

I like how you act as Ruler and not much micro managment. that should stay. tactics might be a good option for some... but that really shouldnt be. as leader of several Planets or more you have enough on your plate then do try and figure out how to fight a battle.
mabye rather then ending the Tech tree, keep researching and the tech simply puts a +1 on what ever your researching to keep the game going. (attack def planet ect...)

working with the AI like in Empire Earth 2. let your ALLY know where your going to be defending/ attacking and give them orders or they will tell you what they plan to do and how they will do it... that would be alot of programing but it would be nice.

have an option to see the military strength on the map in terms of the amount of firepower they can get where in terms of ships built.

maybe having a star implode and turn into a week black hole/mining source ect... depending on current tech level.

Planets activly rotating around the sun.

a 3d view of the planet and a representation of whats built there like in Civ 4 when fully zoomed out you see major accomplishments ect...

thats all i can think of off the top of my head. i know this is a little late in the game when saying that the expansion is coming out. however maybe a third expansion would allow these kinds of features. This game Rocks thus far in my opinion.

You know, I've read a lot of these 'wishlists' of what people would like to see, and I would tend to agree with

Better Diplomacy
Better AI
More Races and more individuality and depth to all of the races.
More Hulls/component designs, and with that bonuses and penalties with having a certain hull design over another.
and a few others I saw in there as well, things to do with colonization, planet battling, etc.

But the thing I'd most pay for, this going before Multiplayer...or before more races...

Is a intricate political system. With the base already there why not expand on it? Instead of just having political parties there to give you penalties and bonuses for whichever one is in power, why not make a vastly intricate political system where the political parties can decide what happens, and even build up a diplomatic side to that, where political parties from two races are in majority and are the same, then relations between those two races might improve, or strain if the two parties are on the opposite sides of the spectrum.

Amen! I find the epic quality of this game to be what enthralls me. The idea of better politics, better espionage, and particularlly HEROES is really interesting. How cool would it be to have Lt. Whoositis start out on a fighter and progress through his career, only to be killed 8 years later "fighting a desperate battle against incredible odds" (Last Starfighter, anyone?) as an Admiral defending his homeworld? How engrossing would that be?

Let SE-V take tactical combat, carriers, and multi-player. The soul of this game is in its ability to draw me in like my favorite novels. Watching the battle movies is very entertaining. I sit and cheer for my ships. I even cheer for my little animated troops during ground combat. Tactical combat will just bog that down, and really, even if I am the gratest space pilot ever I can't be in EVERY battle.

Heroes? First time I heard about that.
I know them from Master of Orion 2. Just add everything MoO2 has + some more and its the best game ever

If possible it would be more helpful if modding were made easier and more customer friendly for the type of players who have no experience in this and want to enjoy the upgrades. Easy downloadable upgrades that fit nicely. That would be worth it`s weight in gold. The computer experts may be able to do that and they would certainly get my money.
In the expansion i`d like to see
a Martian race with traditional saucer type craft.
an option to ask for help in four ways: Beg, request, demand and threaten.
If possible be able to use a targeting system to attack certain parts of a ship damaging it and then destroying it.
Finally a boarding ship to take over enermy ships that have no sheilds.
Thank you for reading my post.
Joe.

Just some more ideas:
- as said in another topic: cloaking devices
- Drone ships like in "starwars: planet of twilight (yes I read)"
- an organic ship set, like Species 8472 from Star Trek Voyager
- as requested above, a saucer or classic sci-fi ship set
- the ability to design your ground units
- more options for costom races
- Gigantic ships, like the Voth city ship from Voyager, maybe with a limit to how many you build
- a "feedback pulse" defense that could reflect enemy fire
