Set a goal for a "research governor"

What do I need to research to build a Dreadnaught?

I get so frustated some times with Gal Civ 2!

Why not include in Gal Civ 2 next expansion (or even a game update) a "Research Governor?" Let me set a goal and then let the "Research Governor (or Czar or whatever you want to call it) set the research tree for me to accomplish/discover that tech.

EXAMPLE; I want to be the first to reasearch all techs required to be the first one to build a Dreadnaught. Then have the "Research Governor" automatically prioritize the tech research accordingly?

I am really the first one to think of this? Probably not, but I do not see/read hide nor hair of it anywhere!

Thanks from,
Dralok Brol

i am of the understanding that this will be implemented. there was talk of it being in 1.1, but clearly other features took precedence. hopefully 1.2?

The tech tree is pretty straight-forward, what you get at the intermediate levels is pretty much what you get at the advanced levels, just bigger, stronger, more expensive. The only critical decision is splitting up your research so your empire is competitive in the short-term.

I'm not sure if the tech tree even has multiple pre-requisites, if you want dreadnaughts all you'd need is Xeno Engineering, Basic Logistics, then choose Advanced Hulls and when it's done don't choose a new thing to research. It'll stay on that track and in a few(hundred) turns you'll have dreadnaughts. It's a similiarly short sequence to get the best lasers, or the best research centers, and so on.

I guess it's true to unlock the pre-made designs you need to get a fairly random assembly of weapon, sensor, defense and engine technologies, but frankly those premade designs aren't worth it. Some things are a little tricky, can't tell you right off the bat what you need to get for Xeno Ethics or to get better Starbase factories, but I'm a pretty casual player it's probably quite simple.

Pre-made designs= steaming hunk of poo.

Pre req's don't exist in this game like they did in galciv1. The tech tree is linear and simple. I would much rather they put in something useful, as opposed to something to mollycoddle those who are afraid of ship designers.

A research queue would be nice though.

Might be able to get it working like so: click on the technology you want to research, and have all the prerequisite technologies queue up. For instance, If I start a game, go to the Research screen, and then click on Stinger-IV.

It might even be real easy to implement.
