GalTrek™: The Kronos and The Omen

GalTrek™: The Kronos and The Omen

Star Trek Ship Hulls for GalCiv2

The Kronos and The Omen

(Click thumbnail images for larger version)

Polygon Count (triangles): 538 / 2,502
Defuse Mapping: None.
Light Mapping: Everything.
Normal Mapping: Nope.
Ship Builder Hardware Mounts: Yep.
In-Game Hull Size: Both Small.
Time spent "making it so" : 1 hour / 2 hours.

I am scrounging a bit here for small ships. The Kronos fits nicely into this category, and the Omen, well, just think of it as a mini defiant!

Those of you who are planning on using this hull pack, please go here and submit my form so that I can track how many people are interested.

The lighting here is by no means perfect, but I find that I need to brighten up the smaller ships so they are easier to see in the game..

I have expanded the list of ships at the bottom to 28. At an average of 1300x1300 (1,690,000) pixels for the texture of each ship, we’re dealing with about 50,000,000 pixels in total in video memory if you happen to have an instance of each ship on screen at once. My tests with high texture usage (here) on a 64MB card suggests that it can process 50,000,000 of active pixels in texture memory, so I think even 64MB users should be able to run this mod (though, I really am not sure how texture intensive the stock game models themselves are).

Also, I have been in contact with Cari, and to my dismay, there is no way to change star base models for the player only (actually, it is going to be tricky to even do that for ship hulls). A change to the star base models will result in all races using those new designs. I quiver at the thought of those bastard Drengins using a federation star base. Too bad, because I could have thrown some neat star bases in there.

Stay tuned for updates (use this form if you want to receive email updates when new ships are available).

Well however spleeze decides to put the ships out there I just cant wait haha..guess I will have to. If you did put them each separately, is it still possible to download them all that way or is it best in mod?

Well hey I figure, why not release ALL the ships in one big pack, and give people a creative license to create a mod around them (all the tech stuff and such)? Theres a whole community out here of Star Trek fans more than willing to work on making a mod, and others just want the ships themselves.

But I guess whatever works.

maybe I'll do both. Mod and model pack.

Hey spleeze! After realizing how well these are coming along I've finally given in and decided to join the bandwagon (even as an incomplete trekkie). As far as your poll comes, I'd like to point out that it is possible to release the ships as a mod and still run other mods, it simply takes some combining of the files. If the ship models were to go in Mods\Data, then just copy them into the Mods\Data (of course they go in a deeper folder, but it still applies) of any other mod you were willing to use. I've already combined other mods this way... it'll just affect things if the mod itself has new hulls (which are few and far between and can still be worked around).

Has anyone (you, spleeze, or anyone else really) looked into making new weapon graphics? I don't know much about modelling or animating, but I would think that someone with experience could patch together a decent phaser array and photon torpedo animation... it'd be nice to get the full affect, y'know?

Don't mean to be pushy

Spleeze, if you don't have time to do the mods and optimize the ship textures, why not release the ship model packs with the 3dsmax files and let someone else take a stab at working on em?

Otherwise id love to try out the ships myself, even if you can't have a massive amount of ships on screen at once.
