Changing a color

The WindowBlinds skin I'm using has an effect on a minimized window. When a window is minimized to the taskbar, when you mouse-over it, it gets darker. Here are 2 screenshots (the minimized window that says Mozilla Firefox):

Normal :

Moused-over :

It fades between normal and the moused-over picture. I want to change the color that it fades to, from black to red. How do I do that ?

Also, in SkinStudio, under the text effects stuff, under "Shadow", I have it enabled, and it shows it in the preview, but when I save, and apply, the shadow doesn't appear. Can anyone help me with this, also ?

To change the color you have open the skin, click on "XP taskbar".....click the taskbar button in the preview window.....
Click on "Taskbar button horizontal image".....then open that image with your image editor and change the correct subimage.Hope this helps....

I can't answer the text question though.....

Thanks about changing the flashing color. I just had to edit the .tga file in Photoshop, now it looks sweet . Can anyone help me with the text shadow, though ? It looks really sweet in the preview...

In some cases, the shadows don't work if the text color is 0-0-0 black. Change the color to 10-10-10 it should work.

The shadow for button text is defined with the font you assign. You have to set the shadow color you want there as well.

Look at the button's attributes to see which font is assigned to that button.

Then go to Miscellaneous/Presets/Font Presets & change the shadow settings for that font there. Be aware that the shadow will "follow" the font & be displayed wherever else that font is used in the skin.

I'm a little confused by your post, Daiwa.

Here's a screenshot of SkinStudio, and the preview, if it would help. You can see the shadow (offset 1, colored red)in the preview, but not in the titlebar of SkinStudio.

Sorry, that link for the image doesn't work. Here's the link to it.

Obviously, I was confused about what you were asking. Sorry about that.

I see what you are talking about in the linked image of SKS.

Assuming that the following are set in the Titlebar Text FX section:
Text Effect = Shadowed text
Shadow Offset = 1
Shadow Color = R, G, B
I don't know why the shadow isn't being applied to the Titlebar Text in the skin.

One quirk of SkinStudio is that it will sometimes "assume" attributes for the Preview image when they are not "actually" assigned, which is why I wonder.

Are you using the Trial version of WB by chance?

Nope, using WindowBlinds 5.0 Enhanced

Yes, those are the attributes on the Text FX.

I'm stumped then. Works as advertised here.

Wish I could help. Neil Banfield cruises these forums regularly - maybe he'll chime in (WB's author). He might not get to the SKS forums as often, though, so maybe a post in the WB forum would be a good idea.

I just noticed a couple of transparent bits in your Titlebar - is that a PerPixel image? If so, that may be the rub. In the Preview Window, click on the dropdown box that currently says Active Window - you'll see several more choices, one of which is Active Window - Translucent. Select that & see what the Preview looks like. The Window Borders - Per Pixel/Caption section in SKS has its own set of text settings, which I notice does not include shadow attributes.

If it's a normal non-perpixel image, I'm still stumped.

I selected that thing in the drop-down menu, and the preview box is now blue, with the regular Windows XP theme. The text doesn't have a shadow. How can I tell if it's a Per-pixel image, and if it is, what do I do now ?

If the standard XP Blue Titlebar shows up in the preview, then no perpixel image has been defined and the skin's Titlebar is a normal image that must be using magic pink for its transparent bits.

Which means I'm still stumped.

Yes, the thing uses Pink for the transparency. I know, because I sometimes see the pink in the MSN Messenger Titlebar.

If its per pixel then it is a .tga or .png. If it is not then it is a .bmp.

Have you checked your settings in wb config? Disable font special effects?

How do I disable Font Special Effects ? I don't see it in "basic settings" on the left.

It's under WB configuration>User overrides>font overrides

Did you post in the WB forum? Might be worth a try - more likely to catch Neil's attention there. Maybe use a title like "Caption font shadows not getting applied."
