We have a starship creator how about a fleet creator?

I am sure I am not the only one who simply throws whole fleets together of nothing but battleships/cruisers/fighters due to the pain of micromanaging build orders and creating fleet after custom fleet course this isn’t realistic (and expensive) a modern navy taskforce is made up of many different types of ships so how about a fleet creator to help us build realistic fleets?.

It would simply give you a list of your ships and your current logistic which would go down as you add warships to the fleet .To create a fleet you jjust drag and drop ships into the fleet 1 battleship 3 cruisers 7 fighters or what ever after you created the fleet you could tell your empire to create a certain number of these fleets and the game will work out which of your planets is best suited to create which ships after they are built they will then be sent onto a custom waypoint to assemble with it’s fellow warships.

I think it would add to the game.

How about being able to build the entire fleet like a single ship...

That may actually help the AI, since they wouldn't have tons of single fighters running around waiting for me to pick them off.

Why not just make a specific kind of ship at each planet and then set the same rally point for each one? That way you could have the fleets stack themselves up and all you'd have to do is check the rally point every few turns for new ships.

The problem is, GavCiv2 fleet combat is basically ship-on-ship, not fleet-on-fleet.

To use your example, a modern naval task force is usually made up of ships with specific capabilities and tasks. An Aegis cruiser is awesome against air targets, but would be virtually useless against submarines. FFGs are great at anti-sub, but can barely protect themselves against missles/aircraft and are totally worthless for shore bombardment (a single 3" gun and no ship-to-shore missles).

If you were to make specialized ships in a GalCiv2 fleet (one with only lasers/shields, another with missles/point def and another with guns/armor), whenver you fought a fleet of equal firepower (but, say, all missle-armed), then your non-PD ships would be wiped out very easily with no help from the one with the PDs.

It would be nice if you could make specialized ships that could assist in the defense (or attack) of other ships in the same fleet, but unfortunately...

I find that most ideas that "lessen micromanagement" also lessen the fun of the game, think Master of Orion 3.

think Master of Orion 3.

They tried to lesson micromanagement. That game was like studying for an exam.

Micromangement is always a pain but sometimes we just have to live with it till someone mods something to lessen that as such with micromangement of colonies.
