System Tray Dock does not work

I just rebuilt my computer and redownloaded Object Desktop. I also have Object Dock Plus. I copied my Object Dock Plus setting from my old profile for rebuilding. Everthing works OK except the System Tray dock. Nothing shows up. I've deleted it and recreated it, but no luck. Right now, my sys tray has 11 items in it, but the dock tab is empty. Any ideas?

Yes. Does this affect what displays in the System Tray tab of Object Dock Plus? In Object Dock Plus you can choose to right click an area choose Tabs>Add New Tab> Add Systray Tab. This should automatically displsy what is normally in the Windows Task Bar Systray. Mine comes up blank instead. It should be showing 11 items. I am not talking about Stardock icons showing up in the Windows taskbar Systray. They do. I am talking about a tab in the Object Dock Plus. I am registered OK. Thank you.

I don't have OD+ but I use DTX and OB on occasion.


The enable mcp notification area support is (from what I understand) what causes the systray info to show in the OD+,OB,DTX.


Once in a while in DTX, I have had to go in to the created systray and change the icon offset to get the icons to show.  I don't know if that applies to OD+.


At Wincustomize, Corky_O has a site with lots of tutorials and a bunch of those deal with OD+.  You want to wander over to his site and peruse them.  The answer could be there. WC is blocked by my employer, so I can't give a link.

Check in Task Manager to see if SDMCP.exe is running. It is required for Object Dock to display the System Tray. If not then be sure you have MCP notification area support enabled in the settings page for Stardock Central. After you have it enabled you'll need to reboot.

OK. I'm now on the same page as you. Yes I do have the box checked for MCP Notification Area Support. But no, the sdmcp.exe is not running. In fact, after installing everything, uninstalling, then reinstalling everything again, searches on my computer have never found the file. It has never installed. What program installs it? I am using the stardock central exe that you download from from the site today if that is where it comes from. Any ideas on why it doesn't install? Thanks again.

Yes, that's where it comes from.

Did you let SDC update itself after installing it? i.e is it at the latest version? I experienced some previous betas that didn't put the sdmcp files in the right place. I can only assume it was a bug of some sort in those versions. The latest one (2.33.401 build 130) works fine here.

Did you search your drive(s) after installing SDC the last time? The files needed at startup normally live in c:\program files\common files\stardock...

My version is 2.33.401 build 130. A search of my computer does not find sdmcp.exe. The only files in my C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock are:ODCommon.dll, ODImg.dll, sdczip64.dll, and sdczip.dll. Just those 5 files, no other. What do I need and where do I get it if the installer did not put them in?

i have exact same problem twice even on new OS install..anoyone find a cure?

I don't think those files are ours to give... This will be why no-one's sent them to you. Besides, the versions may or may-not match what you have and possible cause a whole new raft of troubles.

He claims he's done this and it didn't help! I can't think why - it's always worked for me.

Is it some permission problem maybe on the \program files\common files folder?

The latest one (2.33.401 build 130) works fine here.


Mine is still 2.29.370 build 115 - haven't gotten an update notification yet. I've tried it with just release and beta/release checked

Though I'm not sure if this works for SDC itself or just the installed apps...

Or maybe change servers?

I have SDMCP.exe running, but still do not see SysTray icons in any docks. I've re-installed SDC and re-booted a couple of times, but the SysTray icons do not show on docsk. Any more ideas? I have also recently re-installed after restoring an operating system.

i've tried everything mentioned here even reinstalled my orginal xp image, nothing works.
i'd still like to try those missing files if anyone can send em, doesnt matter if it screws my system up or not, thats what partition images are for
i just want systray to work so i can finally hide taskbar and just use OD instead

unfortunately WC's personal pages are down for the weekend - if you mouse over it you can see it points to Corky_O's page - it's to a mini tutorial or OD+ and creating systems trays - there might be some info in there that will help - but you'll have to wait until the pages are back up

I have had exactly this problem on a system that was working fine for months, suddenly my system tray dock disappeared. I tried all the suggestions here with no success. Then I realised that I had just installed the trial version of DesktopX. I uninstalled DesktopX and hey presto problem solved, sytem tray dock is back in all its glory!
