And, I would like to know why.

Why PC-Cillin blocked it? or.. Why GCII website wanted it?

Neither have I.

I had hit the submit button on a post I was replying to, and PCCillin halted all activity and a message popped up saying that GalCiv2.com was requesting my credit card number, and asking if I wanted to block it or create an exception.

I blocked it, of course.

But, I would like to know why it happened in the first place.

No response from the GalCiv team, as yet. And I would be interested in their response, whether this may be a bug of some sort in their site, whether their site is possibly infected with something...

You know what I mean?

I think Stardock is a very good company, but trust only goes so far.

Their site tried to hack into my computer, from the looks of it from my end.

What's more likely than anything is that your software is misdiagnosing the problem.

I'm with Inept, PC-Cillin's "phishing protection" is questionable at best.

And even if a hack used the forum to send a covert credit-card number request...how could it find that number?

If you do not store your credit-card info anywhere on your computer, there is no fish to phish.

the reply you were posting didn't happen to include numbers did it?

No, no numbers in the reply.

I dunno. I've been using PCCillin for years and it has always done a pretty good job.
And I don't directly store credit card numbers on the computer, but I have used the debit card for online purchases, so it may be stored somewhere. It was just an alarming message, since it was so out of the blue.

I'd try switching to a different anti-virus/spyware/etc. program, and seeing what PC-Cillin missed. I still like avg (http://free.grisoft.com), and Spybot search and destroy (yeah, odd name, http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/).

I'm assuming PC-Cillin keeps some sort of log somewhere that would help tracking down who is really after your card info (generally not stardock, they've probably already got it unless you bought GC2 retail, or are posting on a friends account). Go to http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/supportcentral/supportcentral.do?id=m1 and get some help from there.

If you could post the URL of the page that PCCillin warned you about, it might help.

These are the entries for the Protection Log in PCCillin

"Time","Item Name","Result","Protection Request"
"04:59","My credit card number","Block","ht tp://library.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=add"
"05:00","My Web account","Block","ht tp://library.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=add"

"16:41","My credit card number","Block","ht tp://forums.galciv2.com/index.aspx?ForumID=274&AID=116810"

The space between the ht and tp's are put there by me, so they would not be converted into a link.

uhm, what the heck is PC-Cillin? its obviously some kind of protection program like an antivirus program, but I've never heard of this program.
It's an anti virus program that has been around for at least 8 years. I have been using it on and off since 1998.
Trend Micro puts it out.

I know that Stardock has an auto updater that some people call spyware, but I doubt that it looks for CC numbers. You can disable it as well from the SDC menu I think.
That has been disabled for some time now.

I am wondering, since this site is sooo graphic heavy, if one or two of the graphic files might be infected with something, or something.

This is such an old thread, I wonder how anyone found it.

I switched over to BitDefender just after I posted this and have not had a problem since.

I've also had that PC-Cillin warning come up with this website. But it has for lots of other wierd ones too (such as when I'm reading my email). In fact, it even stopped me posting on here for some time. I don't think there's anything to it, just PC-Cillin being panicky. PC-Cillin sucks.

Ugh...

There are things called cookies.

It does not matter what Anti-Virus you have.
It does not matter what Firewall you have.
It does not matter what Ad remover you have.

If you do not clear your cookies after entering your social security or credit card. It can be snagged. (Wallet, Google, IE, FireFox, anything that holds auto-fill information.) are like wholes in your explorer.

So remember to eat your cookies and clear them regularly and remember your passwords instead of being lazy and then you will be fine.

It could have been a random coincidence. I have privacy protection software that looks for things like the last four digits of my credit card numbers. Every once in a while a random number on the internet happens to match these four digits and it sets off alarms.

For example, the forum ID for this message string is (ht tp://forums.galciv2.com/index.aspx?forumid=274&aid=116841) If my PIN happened to be 6841, my privacy software would give me an alarm as I posted this message.
