Version 1.11 Bugs so far

Plus a rant ooh Boy! :)

1) Sometimes on a big map with a lot of planets, when producing a lot of ships or having a lot of planets with completed planet queues, the Information Icons on the right DO NO SHOW UP. This is incredibly annoying because I HEAVILY rely on the completed Icons that run the right side of the screen. And I thusly have to go through the NOW SUPER SLOW Civ Management screen (since 1.1), click a planet, make it build something, then wait another 2 minutes for it to re-load the Civ Management screen and repeat this 50 times. And if I have 30 ships that are completed I have to do this through the Ship/Planet list, sorting by moves left, clicking a ship, launching it, and sending it on it's way; >OR< looking for the little shield Icons assuming those planets don't have other ships in orbit. GRRRRRRRRRRRR

2) Sometimes completed ships and empty planet queue icons fly by on the right side of the screen (top to bottom) even when on the planet/ship design/colony management screen. Which is an indication that #3 below is happening.

3) Sometimes only a partial list of completed icons shows up on the right side of the screen. Usually going into the Save/Load screen and back out makes the missing ones appear but not since 1.1. Sometimes I have 3 Icons sitting in the middle of the right hand side with none below or above them. Again, usually going into the Svae/Load screen and back out fixes this but not since 1.1.

4) Sometimes when Constructors build on a starbase and you choose what module to build and hit accept, the module is NOT built and the constructor just parks in the same parsec as the Starbase. Usually happens when I have quite a few constructors going to a starbase on Autopilot-Rally Point. Then 5 or so later it shows the "bugged" constructors in the bottom right as Available Constructors and lets me use them and actually BUILD the modules.

5) Sometimes when a ship is completed and the planet has a rally point to send the ship to, the Autopilot launches the ship but then it just sits there with No Destination listed. Really noticeable thanks to the pain-in-the-ass Autofucus er focus that points out the ship has unused movement. Most ships work fine but theres sometimes 30% that just autolaunch and then sit there. This is, again, on big maps with a lot of stuff being produced. And this is without ANY change to the Rally Point Location.

6) Sometimes completed Ship or Empty Planet Queue buttons on the right are actually my Interface Color. This only lasts one turn at which point the ship icons revert to Blue and planet to Green.
IE: Ship & Planet icons are Yellowfor one turn then next turn are Blue and Green.

7) Sometimes when moving a rally point the ships heading to that rally point end up with No Destination and just sit there scratching their ass. This occurs EVEN AFTER I have gone into the manager and updated all the rally points. All ships going to Attack should now go to Attack then Update. All Colony rally points going to Attack should now go to Attack then Update them. Sometimes causes #5 above as well.

Now don't get me wrong. I haven't said this enough but Stardock has done an incredible job and I love the game. I >LOVE< patches. And I >LOVE< frequent patches even more.
I don't mind things like Secret Police centers not working properly or weapons being wacked cost/dmg wise. I can get over those and/or fix them myself >IF< I can properly manipulate what does work.

But there is something that really, really, really, is making me play less and severely aggrivating me. And even making me >NOT< want to buy anything else in the future.
And that is the CLUNKY (yes I said Clunky) and overly time-consuming UI. The above problems along with things like:
A) The gosh-danged Auto-Focus
B) Overly repetitive clicking to decomission things (Click, Select decomission, move click Demolish and then REPEAT A BILLION TIMES)
C) Upgrading individual ships (Click stack, move one parsec out, and then upgrading)
D) Going into the Civ manager, sorting a column, then onto a planet, exiting back and have to RE-SCROLL to find where I WAS PREVIOUSLY on the list
E) Same as D) but with the Ship/Planet list.
F) The Dead-Zone on the minimap, that when clicking on it to move the view there ENDS THE FREAKING TURN!
G) The dead zone to the upper left of the mini-map on the MAIN SCREEN that doesn't allow you to click anything there.
H) The uber lag when fleeting/un-fleeting ships.
I) The general problems of bad descriptions and things not working like the GAME says they should (Government Type Bonuses, Production time errors, Income/expenditure miscalcs, etc..)

Now they HAVE fixed and improved a ton of things. You guys Rock!

But there are quite a few things that >I< myself can fix. And I wonder why the Dev team can't? It is quick and simple. Things that are not going to be used, then REMOVE. Things that are typos or simple cost/damage errors just fix. There are a lot of people that just do this themselves. And 99% of them are not Developers OR programmers
There are things people complain and complain and complain about that are still there (like Auto-Focus and have had ZERO people say they like that option).

And there are things that keep being brought up, and brought up, and brought up, and brought up, on the forums and still have nothing done about them. Yet we get things like:
+ New AI option - allow AI to use more CPU. Not used yet but will be in future builds.
+ Some research oriented techs are more expensive
+ Some text string changes
While this is GREAT, It's like changing the the oil 500 miles before its time, while the Brakes are almost non-existant.

The game is very time consuming assuming everything is working 100% AND streamlined. But it's 2-3 times MORE time consuming if the interface is counter-intuitive.
It is not nearly as obvious on small maps. But on the big ones it becomes tedious and even sometimes PHYSICIALLY PAINFUL. Maybe we can file a lawsuit for pain and suffering? J/K

Lets say I am building a computer. I have this sweet badass O/S that totally blows everything away. But it only runs with MY hardware. But my keyboard prototype has some non-functioning or keys that act strangely. My motherboard has some relay issues. My powerplant sometimes surges. Now while that O/S is awesome and would change the way we use computers, IT WONT ROCK IF I CAN'T USE IT PROPERLY OR WITHOUT HASSLES.

Again Great Job to EVERYONE at SD for a great game. The attention to people on the forums is awesome and the honest attempts at improvement give me great hope for the future.

I just hope my desire to play lasts long enough to see the issues fixed/improved and to motivate me to purchase future expansions and/or products.

Oh and the 1.11 actually is slower for me when saving and loading that with the Mememory test build 13.

But that may be because i am using a savegame from the Memory test Build 13.

I already had bug 1) prior too 1.1 (Link). Same goes for 2 and 3 .

Your big blue text always looks like you're shouting.

You might try this:
1. Attempt to reproduce the bug, or just play normally until it occurs.
2. Immediately save the game, and quit.
3. Send the resulting debug.err to support@stardock.com, along with a description of the bug you've seen.

That should help them track it down.

Has anyone else noticed that when trying to Upgrade a ship in the shipyard, you just get the hull and have to start over placing all the extras?

I find that rather annoying. Instead of making visually appealing ships, I'm just throwing everything on the basic hulls and letting them go - as it takes too long otherwise.

Related to #4: On rare occassions, when I'd have a single constructor parked next to a starbase, when I'd move it onto that starbase, I'd get *two* starbase upgrades.

#8: After I have finished my research on the Neutrality Center, and the research screen comes up for me to select the next tech (in split-screen mode), the tech will be correct on the left, but the map will be focused way out in never-never land. Can sometimes happen elsewhere on the tech trees (usually when you just finished the end of one tree) but always on neutrality centers.

#9: The "hint" boxes the appear while the universe is being generated. In v1.11, perhaps the formatting has changed, but some of the texts are too long to fit inside of the box. Like the one about planetary unhappiness with the skull and crossbones, as an example. The last line(s) get get off of this and at least one other.

EDIT: Okay. Here's a screenshot.

I'm a little surprised that the "auto-focus on next ship" hasn't been removed, or an option added to allow it to be disabled, since a lot of people complain about it, and programmatically speaking, it should be a no-brainer to fix.

Great rant Rogue Metro

I have to wholeheartly agree about the interface issues. Playing on gigantic just drives me nuts when I have to clean up when doing a conquest victory. (Having to invade dozens of planets and killing hunderts of ships per turn with this ¦@#@¦# autofocus and having to go 10 times into combat view when attacking planets because they have no orbital fleet manager, having to wait minutes until all my ships have moved one by one (even though I'm looking into the corners so it goes faster)... )

I also have this bug sometimes. It usually happens when up to 50 ships are finished in one turn, which seems to be too much for the game to handle. Try going into the diplomacy screen to stop it doing that. (Well, at least that was working for me.)

Ah, and btw. if somebody defends the autofocus "feature" I will catch him, tie him, boil him and eat him!

I agree with the most of the things you said. That rally point thing, dead zone ending the turn, demolish thingie etc. Let's see if it's fixed anytime.

Hi!
2) Sometimes completed ships and empty planet queue icons fly by on the right side of the screen (top to bottom) even when on the planet/ship design/colony management screen. Which is an indication that #3 below is happening.

I noticed that in 1.1.

I just played a quick miniature gamewith the new 1.11 - a duel with Drengin in tiny uni, occasional everything, obscene AI. Despite Drengin had beaten me in EVERY category (but amount of pop and social production), I won so easily as no one game before. Because Drengin built NO ships with weapons. Their defenders were without anything, and just sat in orbits waiting to be destroyed.

I just couldn't belive. Drengin, that usually build warships very first, and had the bigest fleet of all players, haven't built in about 60 turns a SINGLE warship !?!? WTH? Glich? Bug? Anyway, game files available.

BR, Iztok

Yeah,

Nicely worded...
I just hate that auto focus, gigantic maps, lots and lots of ships....gah!!!!

Been noticing most of whats been pointed out except for rally points - dont use them.
Main ones to fix for me - no auto focus and no auto scroll in planet/ship/colony management screen.
WRT to that screenshot, with the 'learn things by looking at them' blurb... that always makes me think 'why can't I see ships in orbit moving around planets, so that I don't have to click and look to find out what amount of defence there is'. The 'shield' is one thing - but it doesn't help you find out if it's a single lame defender or a half dozen transports.

PS Autofocus!

i've noticed the issues with the blue/green icons, rally points, and constructors. i've been having them since the 1.1 betas. i agree that some of the things you've brought up would seriously improve the easy of play.

Your big blue text always looks like you're shouting.

Just easier to read on larger desktop settings

it's not just your use of large letters. it's also your diction and occasional use of caps-lock. here are some examples.

But on the big ones it becomes tedious and even sometimes PHYSICIALLY PAINFUL. Maybe we can file a lawsuit for pain and suffering? J/K

do you also drive with hot coffee in your lap?

IT WONT ROCK IF I CAN'T USE IT PROPERLY OR WITHOUT HASSLES.

whether or not you can use it properly is something they wouldn't be able to tell without bundling the game with an IQ test. hold on, these next few are, taken together, my favorites. first:

Now they HAVE fixed and improved a ton of things. You guys Rock!

and then:

And there are things that keep being brought up, and brought up, and brought up, and brought up, on the forums and still have nothing done about them. Yet we get things like:

and finally:

Again Great Job to EVERYONE at SD for a great game. The attention to people on the forums is awesome and the honest attempts at improvement give me great hope for the future.

so which is it? i've met people with type-one bi-polar disorder who aren't that all-over-the-map. but this one kills me:

I just hope my desire to play lasts long enough to see the issues fixed/improved and to motivate me to purchase future expansions and/or products.

it gets me because it's the kind of attitude i have to deal with on a daily basis in my job. i think of it as "buyer's arrogance."

your post was described as a rant, and it was an apt description. you make excellent points, but they would have been better conveyed had you taken the time to do a few things. constructing sentences with clarity helps. using italicization to add emphasis rather than capitals is good too. i type in all lower case; it's an aesthetic choice meant to convey thoughtfulness and a sense of calm.

above all else, write posts like this when you're not still feeling frustrated. as much as you tried not to sound like you were typing a temper tantrum, i at least still felt you were. it isn't a matter of there being a right way and a wrong way to communicate. you can say what you want, but it's naive to expect a timely response if you haven't taken the effort to consider how the act of reading your words is going to affect others.

I can get over those and/or fix them myself >IF< I can properly manipulate what does work..

if i wanted to fix a problem i had with the game, i'd take the time to thoroughly document it, and then i'd send it to the game developer through the channels they've set up for just that. i don't have that much energy, but i definately don't waste the energy i do have to say or write things that are unlikely to accomplish my goals.

Has anyone had any extreme lag issues on gigantic maps? I find that after a bit, it will start to lag and then freeze. And then I try to load the saved game(gigantic map size) and it just sits there, not loading anything.

@S1Genocide: Probably not worth posting debug.err here, email it to stardock instead. Well, unless Brad pops up and says "keep doing it".

@OP: Heh, yeah, forgot about large screen rezes. CTRL +/- might be a better choice though. Just saying

I just realized I've spent more time reading Dev Journals than I have actually played this game. That's just sad Either that, or Draginol writes good AARs.

Yes, you will need to start a fresh new game with 1.11 to see most of the benefits of the new memory management changes.

I agree with what you have said and that while some of the complaints here are justified, they need to be done in a calm and collected manner in order to get things done. You need to apply some of your suggestions to yourself however. It is almost as much a nuisance to me to read your text that does not capitalize as it is to read his blue font. There are reasons for caps and using them does make reading an easier job. It seems on these forums that people have gotten lazy and sloppy in their writing technics. I am by no means a written English expert, but people don't care about doing things right nowadays. They don't realize that stating your point can be done much better if you use correct english and grammar. The person reading the post also forms an opinion of the intelligence of the writer based on how well his post is written.

I'm sure someone will find an error in my post and bring it up. Thats fine but at least I try my best to get it right.

And I thusly have to go through the NOW SUPER SLOW Civ Management screen (since 1.1), click a planet, make it build something, then wait another 2 minutes for it to re-load the Civ Management screen and repeat this 50 times.

I have made some tweaks to the Civ Manager screen to make it respond a lot faster when switching from planet screen and back.

D) Going into the Civ manager, sorting a column, then onto a planet, exiting back and have to RE-SCROLL to find where I WAS PREVIOUSLY on the list

The changes I made will also fix this.

one question.. supposedly there is a way to click on a planet and see the individual bonuses of each structure?? or a detailed display of every little thing on the planet.. not the spreadsheet looking thing from the charts..... how is that done?
