Mirror ship parts.

I have tried and looked and everything. Can someone tell me how to flip a ship part with the latest patch? I want my ships to be freaking symmetrical. The 3 knobs apparently just spins them around and around along the attach point.

To mirror a part:

1) Highlight the part you wish to mirror. For example if you have a wing bling piece on the left side and want to get one on the right side with the same angle click the one on the left first.
2) Select the same part from the extras list so the new part takes on the orientation and size of the first part. This also puts the part on the mouse cursor and deselects the part on the ship.
3) Now right click on the dial you want to mirror. This causes the ship builder to flip that axis. I've found that sometimes it isn't perfect but it gets the part close enough that you can fine toon it after you get it on the hardpoint.

Also keep in mind that there are a couple of parts that while they look like you can mirror them in fact they are not perfect when flipped. One of the wing pieces comes to mind but also a few of the smaller pieces are like this also.

the problem is... the hard points are off...

I try not to pay attention, but when I look closely... it drives me nuts.

I hope 1.2 will fix this, along a few other small inconviences...

Yeah there are still a couple of hulls that have hardpoints that are perfectly symetrical or worse have the normal flipped. It can be frustrating but to be honest with you I just either ignore those hard points or use a different hull .

If it's the mirroring hardpoints on the sides that you have in mind, one way of going around this is to install a symettrical extension (like the one that looks like a stick/mace thingie) to the center of the ship, flip it upside down so that its shape is now inside the ship and thus hidden from view, and attach your mirroring components to this extension's sides instead.

just one of the ideas to consider, that is.

The hard points aren't always the problem - rotating a single part shows that most of them don't have their attach points at the center. Mounting a pair of anything will almost always result in one being a bit further forward, or a bit lower... and of course there are entirely missing hardpoints and the backwards ones. None of this has been a secret since the game launched - particularly the Yor hulls, which are pretty terrible in this regard. It's frankly damning that people are advocating 'avoiding hulls' or 'doctoring it yourself' when they've been broken for seven patches.

This is so far the best suggestion. It just seems dumb to have to construct an entire internal skeleton made of antennas, just to have wings that match. But they were just annoying the hell outta me.

Yeah I ran into that with the Yor hulls and specifically some of the parts. If the hardpoint is not centered then part will not flip. The delta wing with tube at the base is the worst.

I am personally looking into what plugins are needed to work with the parts in Max (since I have 6) Now just to work out if I have a workable plugin or not.

While I don't know the internals of Stardock's design team I do know software development in general. If it is something that takes an artist's time then it is a safe bet that is on the back burner if said artist is assigned to something else to work on. Given that Brad posted a bit ago asking if people would buy a $10 ship pack it seems obvious to me that the ship hard point problems are a low priority. So some of us just work around what at the end of the day really amounts to nothing more then a minor annoyance.
