Keep the minor as pet and support

In some of my latest games I have chosen a minor - like akillians - and gave them a few planets. If I could reach the homeplanet i would start taking that lovely q15 planet first and give them a few planets in my backyard as a peaceoffer.
After a few techs and lot of the TRADE-routes its soon forgotten and we are friends ever after.
Now they are usefull - allthough they are not able to colonize, they can easily take worlds by force and as my ally, they will help me until the day they die. I give them techs so they can defend and invade, and i have seen them take the minor quality worlds i left behind in my war because i didnt have enough soldiers, AND they are my guarddog as they will see and intercept the small fleets i dont get killed before they are past my frontline. They dont produce influence to make a treat and i am sure to have 1 -2 good trading partners through the game.
In my next game I will try to keep them all. After all when i have 100 - 150 planets midgame , its easy to give them access to 10-30 planets or more without notice, and i think its more fun.

BTW I am curius about which minors are capable of at least defending them selves or actualy to take over planets

minor races can invade your planets and make ships they can also colonize. The only thing they cant do is be in the thing where all the races vote. The minor races also share 1 AI so they are all the same in smarts.

Heh not many are as radical as you there. Interesting idea.

I was just the opposite last game. I used minors as stepping stones to make my empire my robust before attacking a major or two.

No they can't. Fundamentalists and split off races (Terran Confedarancy) have the basic major AI so they can colonise. Minors can't.

Minor races in my game have colony ships becasue I saw a minor race having like 3 planets they mignt not be able to invade...for now

They certainly shouldn't have, unless they were given those planets. What race was it?

I always used to look at minor races as a free planet but lately I've been using them as trading partners if they are in my territory. My current game has 4 minor races in area of infulence and all my trade routes run to them which is turning out to be a hell of lot more secure then routes with majors.

The ankillain or someting like that I still toast on sight since they always plant an influence base next to my homeworld.

Can't remember what minor race i had next to me, but they where only about 10 moves away from my home planet. Was still getting 14bc from a single freighter, so i set up all 10 routes to there as I know they would be protected as its the middle of my empire, and then just put as many econ starbases as i could.

By the end of the game when I was getting enemy planets every turn from influence (which ruins my game of just wanted to corner my enemy and keep playing) Id give this minor race about half the maps planets (gigantic and abundant everything)

In one of my last games I encountered the Dark Yor for the first time, right next to my initial system. Finding them
amusing, I proposed an alliance, which they gladly accepted... the game went on, I shared my tech with them, they
even conquered another minor race, and constantly waged war with the other major races, protected by my borders &
military superiority. So kind of, I played the DY´s game, they decided who´d be wiped next

I tried to keep one as a pet once, but it kept pissing on the carpet. I swore never again.

I'm currently helping the Carinoids, but I can't hae them help me fight any major races. Just the minor ones.
