Minor races becoming extinct?

I've been noticing that since b3 patch there seems to be less minor races per game (last game I had 2 on a huge map and the game before 0 on a Gigantic map)... I haven't seen my wicked little squirrel friends in forever... And I've played multiple different sized maps, and no the no minor race button isn't checked... I'd kind of like to see the opposite actually occur, more minor races. Some people think they're a nuisance, but its fun to pay them to harass the other major empires--you know give them guns, whiskey and money and let them loose... and they make decent trading partners....

I get the little squirrel's all the time. It may depend on which major races are in play. Just like the pirates only seem to show up with the Drath Legion in the game.

Hmmm, interesting thought... I wonder if different races somehow give a different bonus to which/how many minor races show up in a game... Do you get more minors if you pick 9 majors vs. 6 majors? Is there somewhere in an xml file that you can dictate the minimum number of minor races....

If you play a big map with few opponents, then there will be a lot of minor races. The devs recoded the minor races to appear mainly when there is a lot of empty space around them. (I think this is what I read in one of their posts.)

haha yes, the minors rule!
and i also love to trade all my techs away to them instead of just wiping them out for the additional planet, as many other players do.
having them as peaceful trade partners is fine - and since i sell so many techs to them, they can even put up a fight against all those stupid majors that constantly try to eliminate them! lol in my last game, the scottlingas even started advancing in the end, pushing back the weakened altarians...

That's really weird, I've never gotten any minor races in any of my games before I updated to beta 4. Then I started and gigantic map with nine races and I've run into 5 minor races so far; there may be even more in places I haven't been yet!

I'll Have to try that, a gigantic galaxy with me and the Dreigen perhaps...and I can remember one game where the snarthi (sp?) almost wiped the Dranth Legion off the map with some ships I gave them--they even sent troops ships and actually conquered the worlds that they attacked...

when i first played this game and saw the snathi, i was speechless for a minute... then my friend next to me says "would you like a nut???"

but there is no such button.... WAAA

lol...

and minor races form by themselves sometimes i think...

only ever happened once to me.

The minor races are one of my favorit features. I wish there was a minimum setting for the minors, meaning there will be at least X number of minor races on a map. You can add them into a map with a cheat, but I've never tried it. I wish they were a little more aggressive/effective, too. If wishes were horses....

I like minor races. Ive only gotten 2 so far but they both had class 15 plants on a small galaxyso i exercised the option to wipe em out.

An issue I have with minor races though, you can't seem to spy on them... Am I missing the espionage spending button for minors? I would like to know what a minor race has manufacturing/technology/financal capitols before I decide to take their one and only planet from them... Its all about the greed....

I think it's a matter of the AI majors wising up and stomping the minors before I can encounter them. I see lots of inhabited planets named after minor races that I never encounter, and I think it's because setting tha AI on Bright or higher makes the minors great quick prizes for the majors.

My personal favorite is to stack up a pile of constructors, then take a minor that's in another major's sphere of influence with an instant big-influence starbase right next to it. But if none are close enough for that, loading the minors up as proxy warriors is very satisfying.

No espionage on the minors, yeah. I like to do as someone else mentioned, and use them to weaken my enemies and boost my economy. They make pretty decent friends in a long game, as long as you don't need their planet.

I was once playing on a large map and encountered the Scottlingas. Somehow they had survived having a border with the Torians and Altarians whom were busy kicking the Yor's ass (presuming the Yor have asses to be kicked). Anyways i was by far the most advanced empire as i was playing as the Iconians (+50 reseacrh) who i added another 20 research to. So i gave the little blue guys lots of advanced military technology and sent scouts to watch. They started building large hulled ships armed to the teeth, and sure enough the concerned Altarians declared war, but the Scottlingas held their own, in fact within 2 years they had become the 3rd most powerful race and had all but wiped out the altarian fleet!
I had a similar encounter with the Snaithi while i was playing as the Terrans. Those fury little buggers had about 5 worlds under their iron grip before i liberated them (2 class 15 + worlds i couldn't resist)
