Another cool feature would be to add technology to the MoM concept without diminishing the magic side. So that in theory you could "rule the world" with a focus on technology, or with a focus on magic, or of course combine both.

Any opinions on that?

Sort of a Master of Arcanum. It would be interesting and would make a good game but it wouldn't be MoM. Not to say your idea is a bad one, just too different from the original.
Tech vs Magic has always fascinated me. I wonder if the availability of either tech or magic should follow certain "races" ?

You mean for instance Dwarves = Tech, Elves = Magic?

I agree it's far from the original Mom, but at the same time, a 4x game would probably be bound to differ somewhat from the original MoM. It wouldn't even be MoM.
The tech vs magic issue also increases the replay value of the game even more.

Tech vs Magic... Well not to the extent of limiting the dwarves to Tech and the elves to magic. But giving bonuses and/or availability to various paths to certain races. I agree that it would increase the re-playability. Hmm,TechnoElves.

A dark fantasy setting, with a Turn Based Strategy engine for the overland map, and with a Total War like Real Time Tactical engine for battles would be bliss. Along with the traditional city building, tech and spell research, unit building, and discovery of uncharted lands <3

I'd even settle for a Steampunk setting, with steam engines like tech and magic.

I don't think I can stomach yet another high fantasy setting with sparkly bright colors and a "happy everything is so great in life" story. And that's regardless of the type of game.

That aside, I spotted Age of Wonders mentioned in previous replies. I don't really think that they were that vastly different, AoW obviously had certain characteristics of the old Master of Magic game, but still a slightly different game in it's own right. And nonetheless still a good game, that and the sequel AoW 2, plus the series had some of the best music I've ever heard in a strategy game, it simply fit perfectly to the game. Though unfortunately like so many other games, the series had it's shortcomings. Worth playing nonetheless for any ol Master of Magic player.

That's my thought exactly. Wow.

That would be sweet. Stardock should hire us. They probably won't do anything of the above though. If we spew out 100 ideas, they might use one of them.

I agree. It's actually rather fun. But it's not MoM.

Any updates on the develoopment of "unnamed fantasy 4X strategy game" yet?

I haven't spotted any NotMoM2 updates, but I've not been reading the fresh post lists so closely since I got drawn into the DA beta and the silly Metaverse.

Kryo, any chance you'll spot this and be able to give us an update, even if the update is only an estimate of when we'll hear actual details?

p.s. The Chaotic Evil medal seems misguided to me. I've only posted a few games, and just because the top scoring one was the first time I tried being consistently evil, I get a Chaotic Evil medal? As an almost old-school at-table RPG player, I smell a nomenclature problem. Shouldn't a player who chooses the "evil" option at almost every opportunity be just plain Evil or maybe Lawful Evil?

Re P.S: I thought most D&D RPG games that were chaotic evil was more evil than just lawful evil as doing any and every evil act for the sake of it is considered chaotic whereas doing evil acts occasionally based on the circumstances would be more leaning towards lawful evil. Was the slider to the far right when you posted the score. It can happen quickly without realising it with a few favourable colonisation events(+40% PQ / +60% starship bonuses). It can be modified by researching xeno ethics & good/evil later in the game though.

Couldn't really say, sorry. It's still a ways off (don't recall if the roadmap hass been made public, so I can't really go into detail on a generic timeline either), so it may be a while.

Chaotic alignments in GC are basically just 'lite' versions, indicating that you pick that one enough to pull your average in that direction, but not enough to overwhelm all your other choices. The spectrum is strictly one-dimensional.
