I think they're just working on society, an RTS, and galciv3 when they get more staff.

Oooh, MoM2 would be awesome. Hard to describe why and how the first one was so awesome even with certain faults in design. But it was the first version. Microprose was the greatest game house ever. Perhaps MoM was good because of the interaction between the tactical and strategic warfare and the world itself. Mines, warlords type of lairs, towers etc, spellbooks, rpg elements. The same randomness in maps and games as GalCiv2 also has.

Sweet times.

I agree!

MoM has for me remained on my "All-Time Best Games List". Its hard to describe why it worked so well - certainly the underlying theme of building up your amazing spell repetoir was a big factor, but in general everything about that game just fit together like a good pair of well used gloves.

I haven't played it for many years, and I'm sure it would seem quaint by today's standards, but there was something archetypal about the game that I would love too see expanded on or even simply modernized.

I believe they called it "yet unnamed fantasy game"
Anyway, I hope it will be real MoM2 and not another "GalCiv is not MoO" thing, I mean GalCiv is great , GalCiv2 is iven better but people want good old MoM with new graphics and may be , just may be more spells, artefacts and races.

I agree, MOM was great. I wasted many hours playing that. Would love to see a updated version that used the same style of game play.

I would also love to see a redo of the first X-COM. Now that was probably on my top 5 games of all time. Still very enjoyable to play.

Ok, this is the first thread to get me to actually log in and post

Any rate, I second all the comments about MoM being an old favorite game.

Last I remember hearing from the galciv 1 message boards were that the talks had fallen through with the current copyright holder (I believe Infrogrames). Stardock was still planning to do a fantast TBS game, but that the MoM2 name was going to be too expensive to use. I believe that they had been talking about using Elementalist as the alternative name.

Bear in mind that all of this is from memory from about 6-8 months ago. There is/was a long thread on the galciv 1 message boards about this topic.

Pshh, just call it Master of Wizardry or something.

A MoM sequel would be great, but I don't think any game or company will ever capture the "magic" MoM gave us, waaaay back when. Different time, different developers, and different expectations.

I'm sure they will say that on these forums, while benefiting from game mags, reviewers and users calling them the successor of MOM/ MOO etc...

Hypocrites.

GalCiv is not MoO.
I just hope the "yet unnamed fantasy game" IS MoM2.
A MoM like game would be great, I would pre-order a copy from Fraxis or Stardock in a heatbeat.
MoM2 (MoM with Bug fixes, updated graphics, and very little else changed) I would pre-order enough copies to give all my gaming friends / family for X-mas.

An updated MoM or MoM2 would be cool.

It's interesting to me that a lot of the gaming industry these days consists of copying successful games, yet there are so very few Diablo II clones (that don't suck) and many incredible games from systems/OSes past have never been redone for current OSes and hardware.

The type of game I'd most like to see Stardock (or a company with similar production and quality values, which is rare) do would be a squad-level tactical game like XCom/JA/SS.

The UFO series is pretty close to XCOM, except that the AI is pitiful, they use starforce, and their followup support (patches, dev interaction) is nearly nonexistent. The company that does the UFO series is like the anti-Stardock.

If you're an old XCOM fanatic (like me) the 2nd UFO game (UFO: Aftershock) is worth playing despite all the issues (if you can stomach dealing with starforce).

All they need to do is ditch starforce, patch their game, and enhance the AI to more than pursue / run and the UFO series would be better than XCOM. The UFO combat system is pretty sweet, the character development system and gear is great, etc. Unfortunately the ultra simplistic/nonexistent AI, ultra crappy load times and general performance, other glitches, and the use of starforce crush an otherwise potentially excellent game.

Somehow, despite all this nonsense, a 3rd iteration of the UFO series is in development. From what I've read of it they're ruining some of the core gameplay that was perfect in the 2nd iteration and since their track record is already tainted I can't see the 3rd game being of any better quality.

Silent Storm is a decent squad based tactical game but again - it has horrendous AI and the followup support was terrible/nonexistent.

I never could get intot he Commandoes series since there was a lot less flexibility in how you developed the characters or executed the missions.

There simply are not enough squad-level tactical games made.

Is there any recent news on the MoM2 front? Last bit I heard was at the end of 2005 that said that they had the money issue dealt with but a bunch of smaller contract issues were holding it up.

I believe they hit problems with aquiring the rights. There was a post about it, possibly in the journal. They may not be doing a MoM2 now. But I am not 100% on this.

We currently have no plans to work on a Master of Magic 2, sorry.

So are you guys going to go ahead and do the "spiritual successor" then? Because thats some disappointing news. What happened that broke down the negotiations? If you can say.

That's not really something for me to go into, other than tape the color of red had something to do with it.

We're not making any announcements on future titles at this time (other than the already announced Dark Avatar expansion for GC2), but you'll know when we do.

Ahhh, politics, money and turf wars - don'tcha just love it.

Oh well, just wait for the bankruptcy fire sale and you can get the rights cheap!

I really hope they can make a 2nd MoM but please don't follow in the foot steps of MoO 3, It was just plain terrible I bought it mainly to support the re-makes of old games and only wasted about 20 hours on it. Was nothing like the original game play, and Multiplayer was still extremely buggy.

I'd be embarrassed but sense this is the internet and no one really knows who I am. I'll admit to logging at least a few Thousand hours on MoO2 and Masters of Magic, THOUSANDS! Well okay so I've played it on and off sense MoM demo came out in 1993 when you could only play Merlin. Still there are no other games out there like that.

A remake should be simple like the old, modernize the graphics, expand the races a bit, maybe add some more spells and for gods sake add a stable Multiplayer aspect of it, Microprose never did master that aspect.

So sense they "RED TAPED" revealing any information about there plans for MoM2 how about some creative ideas from the fans? BTW I believe you may find Masters of Magic for download if you search google for "abandonware"

It's not likely we're going to do a MOM2 due to the licensing issues with Atari at this stage.

But we are working on an unnamed fantasy 4X strategy game.
