The voice of the multiplayer fans!

The voice of the multiplayer fans!

I read through a post that Frogboy put up a long while ago, in which he stated the reasons that multiplayer is not an existing feature in Galactic Civ II. It was a well thought out and well written post, and the reasons that it was not included with the initial release of the game were all valid, particularly given the price of the game. The main point that was made at the end of the post was that if enough voices were heard, then multiplayer would be considered as part of a paid expansion.

I understand the need for 'quanitity of people' over 'vocality of a few' in this matter, since ultimately what matters the most is how many of the fans of Galactic Civ II would be willing to pay another twenty or thirty bucks for an expansion that includes this feature. I would like to be among the first to say that I am solidly among them, and I have another two or three friends (alas, they are too lazy to post ) that would gladly buy such an expansion as well.

I am hoping that this thread will help give voice to those of us that are greatly interested in the addition of this feature. The AI in this game is excellent - but there is nothing like the feeling of knowing that one of your friends is at the receiving end of your empire's might, and nothing like the ability to team up with a friend and try to tackle the best of what the AI can throw at you.

So then, who's with me? Speak up!

My 2 bits:

1. I would pay for a multiplayer expansion.

2. With MP I could get several friends from other online games to also buy GC II (they refuse to purchase any game that is single player only and the Metaverse does nothing for them in it's present form)

3. TBS can work wonderfully in an MP environment. Perhaps one of the best known examples of this is the, now ancient, Birth of the Federation. The Star Trek TBS functioned wonderfully in MP, even if it's actual in game features were somewhat lacking.

I fully support a multiplayer port for GCII:DL. I know that I would be playing the game more often, and endorsing it more frequently, with the challenge of human opponents. While an excellent program, it is very difficult to recommend a non-MP product. An MP EXP would help to mitigate this.

Cheers

The best scenario would be:

- Coop mode!!! (you win when your alliance wins)
- humans take their turns at the same time
- Next turn only when all humans agree to it
- optional time limit on turns

multiplayer in a turn-based strategy game = pure torture

Kasparov prolly thinks the same. Mebbe the reason he stopped with chess.

I vote yes to multiplayer on the net or lan considering the ai level that you play on people would just be more of a challenge

Not necessarily, a lot of players would use cheese tactics like rush, and quit if it fails. At least the AI sticks it out when it's being creamed.

I hope there will be Multiplayer soon. I have played a few times Singleplayer and as a big MoO2 fan i really like this game. But after 2 Weeks playing i need Multiplayer to play against my friends.
I play lots of turn based strategy MP.. i don't like SP that much.. and never play campaigns!

I think after the bugs patched and a litte work on AI the Game is nearly perfect.. there is only Hotseat & TCP/IP MP missing!

Why don't you just e-mail saved game files back and forth? It's easy, you can do it right now, and the game doesn't need to be redesigned for it. As long as one person doesn't replay his turn 8 times until all his ships win their battles, it should work out fine. This is what was done on Empire, another SP 4x game, and it worked out fine--they had a ranking ladder, etc, and it could even be done with four players playing in two two-man teams. It takes a while to complete a game, but still you'd have your wish and have it now.
