Too easy militarily?

Okay...I just started playing, and I'm confused by the difficulty. I started my first game with the tutorial's recommendations (sub-par intelligence, 3 factions, beginner difficulty). I couldn't keep up to the other races as far as tech, etc. goes (maybe I wasn't trading enough?), but I absolutely crushed them militarily...they never formed fleets at all until later on, in which I still crushed them. The only battle I ever lost (after obliterating the Altarians and about to obliterate the Torians) was for Toria, the home planet of the Torians, the strongest race in the galaxy...and even then I pretty easily brought in some other ships to take care of them.

Will the difficulties balance themselves out on harder difficulties?

beginner level is a joke.
try a much harder level (tough+).
but then it is still easier to do militarly conquest victory than other victories (atleast for me).

so...to answer your question, Yes...somewhat.

Not meaning to sound offensive but just try it out and see.
The beta patches have made it a lot easier to get a victory at the 'normal' level of play but I do find it a little more difficult at the next level 'challenging'.

You're correct that yes, military is the easiest victory. However, the game is alot harder on tough+. The same just sucks at tactics, but frankly, that's every AI in the history of computer gaming ever. If you can pull off some basic guerilla stuff like hitting/running and sneaking around the back, or just parking your transports next to his biggest production worlds and skivving them, you can pretty much own any AI.

The military game pretty much consists of building really fast ships, throwing up Intelligence, finding his production world, bombing the crap out of them, and then running around blowing up his transports. It's not very difficut. After the initial strike it's pretty much just mopping up. I've never seen an AI recover from a surprise attack.

But that's true of every AI in every game ever. You'd be hardpressed to find human opponents adept at countering those kinds of tactics, that's the sort of thing done at high levels of strategic thinking.

So no, GalCiv isn't Deep Blue. You can't really expect game designers to create an AI that good. What I can tell you is that it's alot better than most humans at playing the game.

Beginner is indeed a joke, The A.I plays at its best on tough anything lower the A.I is dumbed down. Probably a good idea to try on bright b4 intelligent though.
