SDC & Betas

I've been wanting to download the beta for a while - when it comes to ethics just call me Switzerland and I'm looking foward to the NLC.

As such, I've downloaded SDC. It installs fine, and upon loadup I'm presented with the "enter your name, email and password." No problem, I've already got all that jazz. Enter the data and I click next.

And I wait. And wait. And wait. And wait some more. Nothing happens.

My guess is the wireless network I'm connected to is the culprit - when I load up firefox (for the first time on a restart) I'm presented with a user verification box. More passwords and such, no problem.

I suppose I could just wait for 1.1 to come out, but this doesnt really solve the problem. Pausing to think, I suppose I should talk to the IT people responsible for the network. In any event, any help would be appreciated.

From what I have read, Firefox is a browser. Correct?

I remember reading others have had problems using firefox creating metaverse charecters (iirc). Don't know if that might be the culprit. That is about all I can offer.

I've had some issues with Firefox...

It doesn't like to function well with this website (I dunno why). But if I'm using the Metaverse I'll just use IE quick...

I really doubt it's your network, whenever I attempt to use Firefox on the Meta it'll just show the loading screen forever, as much as I hate to say it, use IE (or just some other browser). The transfer will happen almost instantly if you do.. hope that helps...

I use Mozilla Firefox 1.5.1 and it works with the Metaverse fine. How many times have you tried to do this? Once can simply be a packet getting lost along the way and one machine sitting there waiting for it to arrive.

No doubt I am missing something here but what has the persons browser got to do with......

The SDC, for me, often does that when I am trying to d/l the latest beta. It will sit there for ages but eventually it does manage to d/l it fine. I too had to go through the verification process with SDC but mine went through without a hitch. You could try and mail Stardock to have them look at your account settings, I have read that there have been some problems with accounts being duplicated etc etc etc....

Then again if the above is absolutely nothing to do with SDC and is in fact all related to your browser then just ignore me

Thanks for all the fast replies! I'm not sure what my browser would have to do with the problem, but I included it anyway. I haven't even bothered with the metaverse.

I've tried the verification process more times than I can count. As I type this, it is still trying to verify. I click on the next button and the only thing that changes is an hourglass icon appears next to the cursor when I'm in the frame.

As for duplicate accounts, I don't think this is the issue as A) I had to log in to download SDC to begin with and B) I had to log in to download the 1.0x patch, both didn't have any issues.

In retrospect it's not that big of a deal (now) - my proc fan is dying and I can't play any 3D games without the the mobo/proc overheat safety feature kicking in. I should have a new heatsink/fan from newegg very soon. Oh well, guess I can just wait for completed patches.

If you look under 'help' of the SDC you will see that you can email Stardock at.....
support@stardock.com

....I would try and do that as the latest beta patch adds so much to the game, as well as fixing many issues.

When you have the SDC open am I right in assuming that because you can't go through the verification process there is little point in using the functions in the 'Tool' menu of the application to help you...?

Unless I am mistaken, SDC does not go through your browser.

In any case, there are certain things that various browsers do not support, or support differently, and so on. For example, Opera does not, or did not last time I checked, support ASP web pages at all.

Your browser would be a problem as firefox isn't as well supported as Internet Explorer. Don't even bother guessing who is behind that.

I run on Opera, and can't do metaverse, but SDC runs fine.

Why do you have to speak to "IT guys responsible for the network"? Are you playing this from somewhere that has some sort of firewall and other security installed? If so, I can imagine it playing havoc with the Stardock Central authentication..

Yep, it may be a firewall/network issue, especially if you have to log on the network just to use a web browser. Provided you're not doing something you're not supposed to do, you may want to see if the IT guys are blocking any ports, etc (I'm not sure which ones SDC uses for authentication, but for most things it just uses IE and, assumably, port 80).
