Need some help with objects/widgets... Or more like a question realy....

Hello peeps.

My questione is simple..
Is it possible to make a object/widget, that can send files to other computers (i.e, drag a file to the object/widget, and the file is sendt??)
Maybe this is a dull questione but I`m a newbie, and I realy want to learn about all the aspects of objects/widgets...
I have way to many ideas in my head...

Hope for an clearifying answer..

It's a good question. You need to define what you want better though. Do you want to send it to a PC on the network? A choice of PCs? What exactly?

A widget\object can easily be a shortcut to somewhere. \\{computername}\{directory}

FTP'ing is also possible . . . I think there's an object out there that does that.

I`ll try to define more..
In the widget/object I want to make a choice of a computer (IP adress(maybe a list of IP`s)) to send the file to, may it be on LAN or the web. I have tought of creating a shortcut, but that don`t seem to be working over the web... maybe FTP is the answer...
I appreciate any help I can get. I`m new to scripting so any help would be great,
(link`s to learning sites(the sites I`v seen is rubbish), tutorials etc...)

hope someone can help a noob...

well, it would be tough to mix sending files to local network machines versus sending files to computers on the Internet. For sending to computers on the internet you'll likely need to use FTP but that of course assumes the remote computers are running an FTP server. As far as copying files to local network machines they have to have file and printer sharing enabled and you need to know where to put the files. If you are on a domain you also need to have permissions to copy the file to the remote folder. This functionality is built into the OS for the most part in the form of the Network Places capability. It will allow you to create shortcuts to local network systems or to FTP servers and you could just create shortcuts on your desktop to drag files to.

HTH!

That'd be a cool widget though.

I think a good idea would be to have it FTP to a "common" location and then set a "flag" that there is a new file on the computer your sending the file to, and it would be able to ftp into the same location and download the file.

I have not tried anything to do with FTP from DX so im not sure how it works, or how it can be setup.

But it could be an interesting idea.
