Request For Planetary bombardment/"Stellar Converter"

I'm sure this topic has been broached before but I feel the need to bring it up again.

I find it too tiresome to conquer planets via transports and I feel that the lack of a stellar converter type weapon (for all you people younger than 25 its a bad ass weapon in Moo2 which obliterated planets and was quite good vs. ships too, although for the same size you could fit a dozen more effective disrupters) detracts significantly from the game. I plead for the inclusion of some sort of method in which I can either neutralize an enemy colony or destroy the planet. If you decide not to add such an option please tell me why you have decided not to do it.

No. That would be you answer.

The simplest answer would be that it is too late. Such a change would be too much of a major change at this point, and require extensive AI testing, game play testing and so on.

I can't say why they didn't decide to include it in the first place, but I can guess that they decided the game would be better (for most) without it.

Maybe you will be lucky in an expansion pack if they decide to include one then. Expansion packs are where you are allowed to change things drastically.

Dont take my word for it, but i think they were going to make an expasion this year that was bringing back the "terror star" for you to destroy entire planets and other stuff like spyin agents. Somebody can confirm this plz go ahead and post it for us to know.

The trouble with superweapons is of course that they are only fun for the guy holding the trigger.

Of course, that fun is well worth the risk of being on the wrong end of the barrel...

WOW WELCOME TO PLANETARY BOMBARDMENT THREAD #312

No and no

thank you astax, really if you dont know if a topic has been talked about before, just ry doing a search for it, oddly enough, you would probably get about 312 results. there wont be either of those in this game till at least an expansion, and when the terror star used to be in the old game, the up would always try to ban it. its fun, until the enemy starts making your planets disappear, and start bombing the hell out of a planet, and you get angry that they can do that, it unbalances things because you could just take a fleet and go around the map on turn 20 and do that and win, it takes the strategy out of the game

I am sorry, But I am sick to death of people saying "This was in MOO(Either I or II) and I think it would be good in Galciv II!"

Lets set the record straight.

Galciv II is NOT Masters of Orion, They are two different games and should be treated as such.
Not every idea that works in one game works in another.

Lets use movies as an example:

Imagine you are a huge fan of Zombie movies, You go and watch say, Romeo and Juliet and then say "Yeah its a great play, But wouldent it be better if it had Zombies?"

The awnser is no, Both are good for their own reasons.

Good God...get a grip.MoO2 and GalCiv2 are both science fiction, both space strategy (4X),both are based around planets that some times need to be conquered or ...destroyed. Should not two modern war, planetary games have nukes?

And I have played both.

Zombies represent a feature, Romeo and Juliet represent the game. No two games are exactly the same and what works for one does not allways work with the other.

Nukes are not a staple of gaming, They may just not fit in with the game.

Its like saying:

"Gameplay - Check, Balance - Check, Oh and George! Dont forget to add nukes"

I'll have to disagree also with you Ryan Vincent. The 2 games share many things in common and the developers obviously had played and had MOO in mind when they designed the game. The analogy with Romeo and Juliet and a Zombie movie is poorly selected because they aren't even close, if not opposite.

Maybe you get easily discouraged when the enemy bombs your planet but thats not how all players think. The planetary bombardment feature brings two things to the table. First it raises the ante and causes you to place more resources in defence of your planets (simple destruction is a lot easier than using ten transports supported by several defensive fleets to invade a planet that you may not be able to hold). Secondly it allows you to more easily quash players without having to deal with the aftermath of far flung colonies that now require administration. So no it doesn't take the strategy out of the game because it makes offense easier at the expense of defence.

Oh and if you were able to get a stellar converter by turn 20 my hats off too you because that was a way late game tech. If implemented correctly planetary bombardment should start off weak with the early related techs increasing in strength as more advanced techs are researched. Planetary destruction should only be available very late in the game (the same time your building black hole guns and such).

But you must admit Romeo and Juliet would be much better with Zombies.

I certainly agree. Any remake of Romeo and Juliet should definitely have zombies. It's time thespians get with the times; zombies are far more popular than sappy melodramatic love stories.

Coincidently the ground combat in Galciv is handled same way as Moo1 with a bit of a twist.

Dear god how I loathe myself for bringing this news.
It was confirmed in another thread: Yes, terror stars are in the UP.xml files for a reason.

They WILL return in the expansion. Bloody great. Now, they're are going to be screams of "zomg cheats!!! nuked teh planet!". There are enough complaints about colonising from people who can't play the damn game, and you gave the AI which is thrashing them terror stars.
I respect there was a lot of demand, but please make sure it has it's own tech list. So I can cut it out of my game as soon as it is released.

And for the confirmation:

Terror Stars are planned for the expansion pack, only this time (for UI and ease of use purposes) will only destroy planets.

Incidentally, Romeo and Juliet irritates me enough. They were thirteen year olds doing what thirteen year olds do, falling in love, being dramatic and "abused", and then killing themselves. Alright, the last bit isn't quite on par with what thirteen year olds do, but you get the gist.
