I feel really stupid for having to ask this...

Could anyone with a bit of spare time tell me the default governments for each Civ? A friend came over and decided to tool around with the settings some... I look away for a moment, next thing I know I've got diplomatic Drengin and savage, warmongering Humans. I've managed to restore most of it with the aid of the Wiki pages, but I never saw a reference to government anywhere. All I can remember is that Drengins are War Party, Humans are Federalist, and Korx are Mercantile...

Here's an easier way:
Go to
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_ACCOUNT\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2
or Start->My Documents->My Games -> GalCiv2 will work too

In that folder will be stuff called CurrentCustomRace7.raceconfig and such. Delete those files and viola, all your races are restored.

But I have a bunch of custom species I made, and I don't want to lose those...

Or are those saved some place else?

Go where xFlukex said, if you look in that folder there will be files names as he said. Open them up with notepad or something and right at the top it will tell you what the name of the race is. You can put the core ones back to normal that way - basically they will be the ones running 0-9 anyway.
