Bah! Downloading update broken!

Lovely. Just tried downloading the new beta update via Stardock Central.

First : it (Central) doesn't show the size of the update, just the date it was updated.

Don't figure it'll be that big, so I kick off download & archive.

Over an hour later :

"There was an error downloading and archiving GalCiv II.

Error: No files found within the XML file (Code: 16)
Result: Download and Archive failed (16)"

And telling it that yes, I want to view the log file does ... nothing.

Lovely.

Is this really a genuine complaint?

um you were downloadin/archieiving the entire game... not getting an update...

Hey there, this happened with the initial release of the game - where the download appeared on SDC, however the files had not yet fully "uploaded". You may be trying to download and install something that is not quite fully uploaded yet. You might just want to wait a bit and try again. Hopefully, that is a good sign that the beta will be coming today

I'm not seeing the update on SDC. Assuming this is 1.1 Beta right? Is it only avaliable to those who beta-tested, or everybody?

Is it a genuine complaint? Stardock Central is showing an update for GalCiv2 dated 22 March. Presumably this would be the beta. Using Stardock Central to, gee, update it, presumably should do just that. Not fail miserably, and not fail to display the log file as it says it should.

As a programmer (and also as a purchaser), I'm dismayed if the patches are going to both be HUGE and fail to download and install themselves properly. Yes, I know the update is _BETA_ but the distribution mechanism isn't supposed to be.

Until then... sit back and play the game/ or do whatever

AH, hoping for either soon or Sunday night. I have to work Sat-Mon 12 hr shifts so I won't be able to enjoy it for a while- and by then they'll probably be a bugfix to the Beta...

1.1 beta is not out yet. Not sure what he's talking about.

it appears that he attempted to download and archieve the game.

Reasons being..

1.It took over an hour(dont think that patch is goin to be that big)
2.And this-""There was an error downloading and archiving GalCiv II.

Error: No files found within the XML file (Code: 16)
Result: Download and Archive failed (16)""

This is why I figured he was joking or completely off his tree!

It's so easy to jump in and start screaming but much harder to look at what you are doing.... seemingly!

Hey well, I guess we all make mistakes sometimes!

yea, thats why u should take a step back, take a deep breath, cause 9 times out of 10 its your faullt, not the program

If the patch isn't out - how come today, Stardock Central was showing Mar 22 for when GalCiv2 was updated when Wednesday it had an older date? Sure makes it look like an update has been put out. And as far as Download & Archive - since there's precious little to go by, it sure seemed likely that was the way to download an update and be able to roll-back to the archived version.
