Diplomatic VICTORY

On my second game

So, I was playing a very small galaxy, sharing it´s measly resources with 3 other races: Drengin, Yor and those poumpous bastards that call you "cousin" and whose name I can´t quite recall. Now, keep in mind, this is my very first "completed" game, and I was aiming for a cultural victory. In the way there, somehow I manage to create alliances with the Yor (they always called me "friend" for some reason, and kept on giving me money even though I never asked for it) and the pompous bastards. I was spamming the latest´s space with influence starbases, by the way.

Anyway, both the Drengin and the Yor kept asking me for help against them, them being really militaristic and all. I would respond by giving them money (I always had money to spare) and staying away from the whole thing.

So a couple of minutes ago, the Drengin ask for my help again. Getting tired of their whining, I send them 2,000 bc and they respond with a heartfelt "I love you man!" So i check and, sure enough, the option to make an alliange is there, finally. So I do, and all of a sudden the Galaxy is united in peace and prosperity, with ONE RULER of course, ahem.

My military: One lucky ranger and six "Firefly" class small fighters (1dmg, 0 def).
I never ONCE went to combat.

I believe this is a first for me in any strategy game. I really, really could win witouth blood (that´ll come in my NEXT game, heh) and I think it´s AWESOME.

BTW: AI on NORMAL, and my final score was 6978 or something amongst those lines. Low score, considering I had to really EVIL races calling me "daddy" and managed to unite the galaxy thru peace and prosperity. What fun

I drool at your skill of accidental victory .

LOL yeah, totally. I really didn´t know what I was doing, nor had a grand strategic scheme in place (other that "influence victory"), so I just kept doing what seem to make sense. I´ll take it anyway

Sounds like a good game! Very similar to how I played my last game. I never fired one shot, in fact, I never built any armed ships at all, all I built was several custom construction ships.

Does this mean you can win a diplomatic victory even if some of your "allies" are at war with each other? This is interesting, because I had a game with the Drengin, Arceans, and I think the Yor left, and I was allied with the Yor and Arceans, and the Drengins were fighting both of them, but my relations with the Drengin were "warm". Which surprised me since I'd been at war with them as well and taken some planets (first planet I took: Drengin homeworld!) before I offered them peace, which they graciously accepted.

I debated giving them some gifts to make an alliance, but Ifigured that wouldn't work for a diplomatic victory since to me it makes sense that no one is fighting to get the win. Instead I declared war on them again, and after taking 3 more planets from them, they realized it was hopeless, gave everything to the Arceans, and the next turn I had a diplomatic victory.
