CHEATS WERE

Hard to come by

This can't be the first complaint about cheats. I'm just like any other kid wanting to desimate my enemy.
I've tried about everything and can't figure out how to enter them, some one please respond.

make a new shortcut to the Galciv executable and enter 'cheat' outside the destinateion quotation marks.

ie.
"C:\game directory\galciv.exe" cheat

Don't do it! Cheats are what ruined the fun of Civ4 for me. Learning this game is half the fun. Just play on a lower difficulty setting or make other races less intelligent until you get the hang of it.

If he/she wants to cheat let him/her.....i don't think they work for metaverse games, i play normally on Metaverse and i cheat on normal games, its fun.

I never feel any of the 'satisfaction' when completing a game without cheating, i feel the same regardless if i cheated or played fairly.

some that I remember:

Ctrl-M +10k credits
Ctrl-B spawns a battleship
Ctrl-C clones currently selected ship
Ctrl-alt+Z (or maybe it's ctrl-shift-alt+Z) takes control of currently selected unit
Ctrl-T teleports selected ship to mouse location
Ctrl-V summons UP council meeting.

there were a few others too.

you also have Ctrl-Shift+R to get all tech except for Tech Victory, if you plan to just commit genocide, i would turn research funding off when you use this code.

I used to cheat while I was getting used to the game, it felt so shallow, and the victories got dull. Super Project? no problem! buy the damn thing. It made the game boring, and it wasn't fun until I removed the shortcut. Besides, once you've got to grips with the game you don't need to cheat, you make money, ships, and research the normal way.

Cheats are a great way to learn a game. For me I don't learn anything getting my teeth kicked in but the cheats allow you to experiment to see what you need to do to win.

The victories are indeed hollow but the learning experience is fun as is blowing up the guy that was crushing you a few moves before.

My cheat shortcut still works. Are you sure you're using the proper path for your game's exe within the quotes?

EDIT: As it stands, you are missing the 'Program Files' directory - at least with respect to where mine is installed.

yep..

try: "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe" cheat

unless your Stardock isn't in C:\Program Files

I uninstalled my game and made a new client folder, then got the cheats. I mean, same directory, but..yeah.
Don't work.

I bought the game, installed it, set the galaxy to gigantic, cakewalk, set everything to abundant, set research to very fast, selected 9 opponents and just went to town.

Within a hundred turns or so, I understood the basic concepts. I researched the entire tech tree except tech victory. Messed around with every slider, button, gadget, bell and whistle. Spent time designing my own ships.

Then, when I was ready, I obliterated my foes.

The only thing I can see cheating would speed up, is the demise of your opponent. In which case you don't really get the full concept of what does what and why.

Just my opinion.

I have to admit the the first couple of games that I played, I used cheats to eliminate the fog of war. I found the FOW to be an annoyance that I just didn't initially need when there was so much else I needed to pick up.

I think after two games like this I was all set and found the FOW to not be such an issue to deal with. I think cheats are fine as an initial learning convenience, but if you become dependent on them they will stunt your development.
