I want my money back

Who do I talk to in order to get a refund?
The bugs in this game just as bad as those of moo3.
The game is virtually unplayable and I can't even get stardock to accept my serial number.

I don't want a long list of fixes.
I should not have to rework my PC to work with your game.
How about waiting to release the game next time until it's ready?

how about checking if all your drivers are up to date etc..?

That first post probably isn't the official answer. The game works for most other people as far as I can tell. As to who to speak to, try emailing stardock (since they won't neccessarily read every post in the forums).

Could you give us your computer specs. Graphics card, cpu, OS, etc. If your serial isn't working, and you also got your compy from a European vendor there is a website you must goto.

have you got the game to work or not?
(what do you mean by not accepting the serial number?)

i downloaded my game and had a serial number problem...I couldn't get the site to accept it and asked for a new one sevral times...i later figured out that they have a few different places to put serial numbers (ie- for different products and got it to work- though it was a bit confusing)

is that the "bug" your refering to, or the actual game which runs fine (even though it could use more polish and enhancement...i see some good adds in 1.1, hope thats not the last add/patch though- the tech tree needs some love as to the tech costs and descriptions)

I'm sorry you couldn't enjoy the GalCIv2. The game has been one of the best $40 I have ever spent. Have you updated your drivers and the game? Post your debug.err file that is in the GalCiv 2 directory.

Yeah, if you didn't update your video drivers (which the game probably TOLD you to do the first time you launched it) don't come complaining about how the game is buggy. A driver that is older than 2005 is going to be buggy and have problems with this game as it uses brand new technology not implemented in < 2004 driver sets.

Most of what you see in the patch lists are not bug fixes, they are gameplay tweaks. The devs have only had to patch a small handful of actual bugs since release. One was excessive framerates causing overheating and crashes, and another was a couple of zero-byte savegame files. Everything else you see if just a tweak to game mechanics, tooltips, context menus, etc in order to accomodate players needs.

I tried installing it on my microwave, but it won't work. I want MY money back too! I shouldn't have to swap my microwave for a PC just to run this game. OMG fix this Stardock!!!

OK ....um to be blunt.....I can be a troll with the best of em, and I know a troll when I see one. OP.....you are out trolling.

The maturity level in this forum is shocking...

To the original poster: No, this game is not bugged. Have you noticed the dozens of high reviews? Gamespot would not have given GalCiv2 an Editor's Choice Award if the game was badly bugged. In fact, I have been playing for three weeks without a single bug or crash. I would suggest emailing Tech Support and upgrading your system.

And ignore the rude people who responded.

yay its not buged at all...the only error I have is the toutorials is all messy. It is hard to hear the persion talk becasue hit freezes every second like if....the....planet....ext. The rest of the game is fine. I got this game and could not play it so I bought a new pc. Just wait for the fixes to come out.

Candelaurius, you can hardly blame them. First, some troller makes a post whingeing about how awful and buggy the game is, without listing a single problem. If you want help, post debug.err files, or even give us a hint of what's wrong before you start shooting your mouth off about wanting your money back. I haven't seen a single major bug yet, and about reworking your comp? if you dont wan't to have to install new drivers (if that's what you're talking about) stop using it games for christs sake. This was built for low end PCs and laptops, if you need to undergo substantial changes to get it to work at all, then sorry but your comp must be TERRIBLE.

If you bought it from Stardock, contact sales@stardock.com If you bought it from somewhere else, then it depends on their return policy.

1) yeah, there are some bugs. in 3 long games i encountered 1 crash. luckily the game saves automatically often so virtually nothing was lost. and i found one single gameplay bug yet. thats all. a unplayable game looks otherwise. this game is almost bugfree and the coming patches will secure that this will stay this way. additionally: there is NO bugfree software in our parallel universe.

2) serial number: european serial? heres a special place to enter these. still no luck? write stardock!

3) PC Gaming needs a level of maintaining your rig. at least drivers should be updated regularly or at least when something is not working. no software developer can make his software run on ALL rigs with old, older, oldest drivers. who knows? imagine: maybe s.o. uses a hacked version of some old driver version. how can a developer implement workarounds for all buggy drivers around? this is not "reworking a machine". only some copyprotections which banns you from playing when u've certain cd&dvd-tools installed pressures you to "rework" your system

4) galciv2 is one of the best games i ever played. i actually quit playing world of warcraft because of galciv2. thats just because this genre is my favorite and galciv2 the best game in this genre todate. and weve seen plenty very good games here.

5) i really hope you just dont want your money back because you realized you can copy the game and you re not willing to pay for someone elses work.

Which version have you bought?

Personally I bought the European Collectors Edition - which calls itself Limited Edition.

I too was becoming quite frustrated until I spotted the 'Bought your game in Europe? Click here. ' link on the top-right of the downloads page - it is not what I'd call prominant!

You enter the code from the back of the limited edition manual and they provide you with a valid GalCiv2 registration code.

You know, for all these "bugs" supposedly in the game, I have experienced a crash (a freeze up, not even a CTD) precisely ONE TIME. The game has been 99.999% playable...I just don't get it. And my "gaming laptop" isn't much either.

Well, the game is unplayable completely for me as well.  I can get in quite a few turns and suddenly I try to click on a square to rush an improvement on one of my planets and poof.  All of my drivers are up-to-date.

Microsoft Windows XP, Home, with service pack 2

Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 GHz

1.79 GHz, 512 MB of Ram

I have already changed my virtual memory to 1440 MB since that was the recommend fix but the game crashed much earlier than usual /whine

I got the download version 1.0X.1

pretecf, get a debug report and i'm sure we can figure it out.

I should not have to rework my PC to work with your game.

I'd have something to say about that, but EvilMuppet already beat me to it with the microwave thing, and his post was funnier anyway.

"Reworking" your PC now and then is a fact of life for a gamer. Deal with it, or buy a console.

And for the record, GalCiv II runs beautifully on my computer, and apparently on the vast majority of other computers too, and all I had to do was update my drivers. (As the window that popped up when I started the game kindly informed me after installing.)

I've had much more trouble getting other games to work, though I've never actually considered it appropriate to go trolling on a forum about them.

It works fine for me, i get some crashes and its probably my computer somewhere.

I Have:

AMD AthlonXP 2600+
1024MB DDR PC2700
Nvidia Geforce 6800GT 128MB (using the latest drivers)

I am surprised how well, my computer can run, i can play F.E.A.R on high and it runs pretty smoothly, so i suspect i can run the New elder scrolls came just as well, depending how well its coded.

Anyway, this game runs great on my machine.

I just finished a Giegantic map 9 players left my computer on overnight to see if there was a memory leak or heat issue.....Kind of like running a stress test for 3 days.... not so much as a glitch start to finish. Kind of suprised me really, I was having CTD's before the last patch.

If you want a buggy game go buy Civ4. Gal Civ2 is one of the most bug free products I have purchased in the last few years. Cudoes to Stardock for such a quality product and their continued post release support.

perfect,

oly 512 meg memory? Windows uses almost all of that to run the operationg system. Go and buy another 512, or even 1 meg of memory and enjoy the game. Many problems will go away with a purchase of less than $100 us dollars. Anyone trying to run current level pc games on a windows machine with 512 memory is going to have troubles. There just is not enough elbow room for the game to run smoothly.

If you bought the European version then your serial number needs changing.Theres a link on the homepage somewhere.
