question about scenarios

When I want to play a scenario, it forces me to play with all the races enables. I was wondering if there is a way to play a scenario without all the races. Also, why do all the custom maps have no starter survey ship or starter colony ship? THanks.

Chose a custom map.
I have only played with chaos so far and it reduced the number of opponents to 3.
It wont let you chose them though.

About the ships, I dont know but there realy easy to build.
