Strange Mouse issue

Cannot click menu options

Hello,

I have been enjoying Gal Civ II since release and had the occasional problem with mouse sticking which I now realize from the forums may have to do with my gfx card... I did however install a new driver for my mouse (as I had formatted my PC a few months ago and not reinstalled the correct driver), and now I have a strange problem. When I start the game I can see the mouse fine but I cannot select any menu options. They just remain solid and I cannot click on them >_<

I have a Microsoft Optical mouse with MS ps2 port intellimouse driver.

Anyone else experience similar issues?

Have you selected hardware mouse or software mouse in setup?

Are you running in windowed mode? I had a problem in windowed mode with the apparent (displayed) mouse position being about an inch above where the program thought it should be.

Running in full-screen mode took care of it, of course.

I selected software cursor when I was able to play and it worked OK other than the occasional "sticking"... Now what happens is I just cannot click any of the menus... not sure if it's a driver issue or a game issue somehow. Basically on the main startup menu I cannot select anything (metaverse, campaign, load... etc). It's strange because it DOES take the input to skip the intro.

EDIT : the problem isn't that I dont see the cursor... it is there... I just can't select menus. Also... I have no problem in any other software

I think I am running in full screen mode and clicking anywhere on the screen doesn't select menu options

My mouse got stuck on the main game screen - simply wouldn't move. Had to restart the computer.

The only solution I tried was a sweep with Spybot Search & Destroy, which removed something I'd not seen before called winfix ( I think).

It worked after that.......

(oh by the way, spybot search & destroy is an excellent free spyware remover - do check it out )

hehe yeah I have anti spyware utilities > pretty sure it is not that since the problem started after I switched mouse drivers... I suppose I could switch back to a standard one. Winfixer is a pain... had a lot of clients with that one at one point in time.

EDIT : THank you all for the tips by the way
