Planet invasion animation

Hello,

Eventhough the overall GFX are great something is missing with ground invasion. The animation is just simple 2D sprites which are fighting and that is all. I would like to see something a litle bit more advanced in this part. It is modern warfare not middle age battle. ANd we should have some 3D animated ground battles.

What are your thoughts ?

Thx.

Huh... the ground invasion are 3d "sprites" and tanks and missile boats and gun turrets firing at each other and blowing up/dying... models aren't super-high-res but they do their job and they have a funny "Bumpy" feeling to them

I think changing this should be the very last thing that anybody bothers with. It is such a minor thing, I just don't think it is worth it.

I actually like the animations. I find them quite humorous.

Only things I would like to see added to the ground combat display are:
1. Tell me if the enemy used gas or mass drivers etc. when they drop on me.
2. Maybe give me a bit of a graphic add in if there are space marines involved
3. Maybe a second or two starter graphic for the gas/mass driver effects.
4. Put a number of troops on the screen that directly correspond to the fight, maybe 50 to 1, so
500 m troops would show up as 10 units, 5 billion as 50 units. Then you could get a feel for the odds.

Not expecting anything great, but right now it is about like MOO2 effects from 1996,
with maybe a bit less of a connection between what tech you have and what happens
on the screen. If I had to look at it honestly, the MOO2 10 year old graphics are probably a
bit more interesting. The numbers you see on the screen really help indicate the comparative forces.

I would consider the ground battles 3D (Tanks and Missle Launchers, not sure about Infantry). I would say that you used "sprites" in the wrong context, but if you mean more camera control/kenetic atmosphere, then yeah I would agree with you.

But I would have to agree with everyone else about it not being a priority

My 6-year old sun always says the units still standing at the end look like they are laughing. I think they are, especially since I still tend to lose way to many of these invasions!

Ground combat is lame. But I agree, it doesn't need much attention right now. Let them fix the important stuff, then they can look into changing the ground combat. Hopefully change the system all together.
