Bug with new ATI drivers

Invasions using traditional assualt make the screen go black

I installed the newest ATI Radeon drivers, the 6.3, today. Everything was fine until I used the basic invasions tactic. Suddenly the screen went black with flashes of color appearing. However when I pressed alt-tab it took me to the invasions screen but frozen. The mouse and the jumbling ivasions odds were both frozen. When I alt-tabbed back to the black screen the mouse would move. If you managed to hit the button to start the invasion on the black screen it would work and when the invasions was done it would take you back to the planet screen and everything would work again. I tried a second regular invasions anfter restarting the program and it happened again. However when I used any other invasions tactics the invasions screen worked fine.

I dunno about 6.3, but last time I checked drivers newer than 5.12 had on advantages for non-X1000 cards, and the 5.12 drivers themselves had some negative performance advantages for low end cards (might be wrong there). For drivers, most of the time its best to hold off upgrading, atleast at first. Check review websites and see what they say, some of them will give very good reasons to hold of upgrading your drivers.

I have a 9800 Pro AGP. I updated because I was getting some CTD's and the sticky's said to make sure to update to the latest possible video card drivers. On the plus side I havent had any more CTD since the drivers update.

I haven't had that particular problem, but when I upgraded my drivers for my 9500 card, I have some new little bugginess that sometimes causes the game to lock up. The older inception of the drivers also caused random lock ups with the game. In addition, I have had to open the machine's outer shell and put a fan right up close to keep the vid card fan from going batty for hours at a time. And yes I do have most graphics options turned off, as well as music & sound effects.
