What ASUS Mobo? The error you are getting is hardware related and can probably be addressed with the proper chipset drivers. Since your machine is crashing when you are not using it, the error is unlikely to be related to software like Windowblinds that is doing nothing while you aren't using it. RAM is a very likely candidate here for random, seemingly unrelated errors. If you can provide more info, people can provide more help.

oh man if i can get this figured out yer all getting cake.....some how??

Don't know the source of your rumors, but I have never heard of WB causing problems like you are describing...

Have you tried booting into safe mode and restoring to a previous restore point that worked?
no i havent tried system restore yet......i may have to resort to that though!
i cant really pinpoint the exact time it all started.....but i did install windowblinds
on feb 2 2006 and like i said it seemed to start happening after that.....

aimzzz: in the recent MaximumPC mag there was an artical about windowblinds

Quote:
"The other major catch of windowblinds is that, like any other low-level OS modification, it has the potential to screw up you system. Our own experience was positive, but we've heard cases in which windowblinds caused problems ranging from sporadic programs crashes to the to the corruption of Windows XP icon files"

as well as various other people on this site having odd problems.....so i automatically linked my problems to windowblinds based on various other issues and the time it all happened!
of course i can absolutely be wrong!!! but it all seems fishing to me thats all?

i am interested to see if Excalibus posts anything else seeing as he seemed to maybe have some clue as to what may be goin on!!

anyway thanx once again for all the input.....if all else fails i will do the restore and hopfully that'll fix it......

The thing is that people often blame a particular program for a problem that may be unrelated to the program altogether. For example, in this forum users often write that WB has done something to a PC but in working through the problem the cause turns out to be unrelated, or a setting needs to be changed, etc. I won't even go into the issues with cracks...

The quote from that magazine sounds like the author has heard some similar comments about WB. How did he/she determine that the reported problems were caused by WB? What kind of investigation was done? The author acts as though it was some stroke of luck that he/she had no trouble.

If WB caused catastrophic problems like people sometimes claim, the company wouldn't have been in business very long. The program isn't essential to the function of the computer (except for addicts).

dj_cityboy ...reading something in a PC mag very definitely does NOT make it Gospel.

Most often the author's qualification/authority to comment is based SOLELY on his ownership of a Propeller Hat and the ability to spell '1337'.

Ghostly reboots are often due to Windows Update...[you mentioned that]....it's been known that an update will reboot a system even if it's not agreed-to cos you're asleep, etc]....once sufficient idle time has passed...

As for IExplore crashing....that 'can' be anything....first potential culprit...plug-ins/toolbar add-ons....etc...

ok ok ok so i guess its not from windowblinds then.......either or can someone maybe help me out....

i dont have toolbars (google or microsoft) and have spoke with a few people from my work and they dont seem to know.....so at this point like i said "um as Lost as the tv show"
my system didnt reboot lastnight (so thats good)....
and as well just so you know im not trying to really blame or trash windowblinds for the problem cause even if it was windowblinds i would never uninstall it!!! I LOVE TO TOO MUCH!!! and i would sooner put up with the problem then get rid of it!

once again like i said any help would be "awesome possum" lol

Do you have Windows set to do auto-updates? As you know, some updates need a reboot for completion. If it installs updates when you aren't around, it will go ahead & reboot the PC if nobody says Yes or No within a certain time frame.

As Jafo said:

It's one possibility...

then i get errors like the pics?

What program?
What kind of pics?
What happens?
The more specific you are, the better the chance of identifying the problems...

I was getting explorer errors (must close, send report?, here's a link, must be your addons) - started right after one of the MS updates - the one right after the WB release - went from errors every once in a while to every 15-20 minutes or whenever I opened a folder or something - got most of my docs and such copied to disk - was in the process of copying my downloaded skins & my mouse double clicked and tried to apply about 60 WB skins at once and that's all she wrote. after the crash I had no icons, no start or bar, no mouse. Nothing worked. had to do a destructive recovery (reformat) - I still think it was an addon - just don't know which - I had Norton at one time - it had an addon and Norton is damn near impossible to remove - hp has addons - ELink has addons - WebBlinds (which I refuse to suspect), Adobe, Qtime, etc. If you open addons you'll see load of them.

The addon message from MS was never specific - I'm suspecting ELink but it's my ISP (don't get much choice in the country and MSN bites (their browser conflicts with DTX and objects - get bleed through).

If the messages start picking up, I suggest you start backing stuff up. After the reformat I installed all XP updates prior to reinstalling other stuff - so far The only messages I get now is when I shut down, task mgr has to close taskpanel (Elink) prior to shut down.

dj_cityboy - That's a memory error. Look in Administrative Tools/ Events and see what app faulted. Also, in System/ Advanced/ Startup and Recovery; turn off 'Automatically Restart Windows on Error'. Could also be caused by an under-rated PSU.

Bichur - until you take a shot at simple English (the operative word being simple), I don't have a clue what you even said, little lone your problem....... if there even is one

No problem anymore Yrag. Not since I initiated the destructive recovery.

I only mentioned it because dj_cityboy mentioned exporer errors and Jafo mentioned addons....my explorer errors were apparently tied to addons (at least that's what MS said everytime an OCA link came up).

But if I have any issues later on I'll remember to type slow and use little words.
