I Colonized a Planet... with an empty colony ship

...and i dont know how it worked...

I was screwing around spamming colony ships via Ctrl-C cheat and found this out. I had always assumed that they wouldnt "work" on a planet unless i loaded them up with civilians. For some reason i forgot to fill one ship up with them and tried to colonize a planet... It worked, and i had a planet with 0-population under my posession... I never tried to go any further than that, going for a couple of turns to see what would happen, but i was obviously shoocked that such a thing were possible to begin with...

So... anyone else do this before?

You can't *launch* a colony ship with zero civilians, so this is a non-issue. Unless you're a cheater.

I ended up with a 1-citizen colony ship once, when I accidentally upgraded one of my sensor cargo ships to a colony ship (instead of the new-model sensor ship). I parked in on a planet I owned and filled it first before trying to colonize with it, though.

You can also load the entire population of a planet onto a big enough ship, leaving the planet with 0 population. No cheats required for that one.

I can see that.

"Hey kids! Come on ur up to the coloner ship! We done did fill up this here planet with our spit n rust buckets. Yo momma said she can't find the wash under all this mess."

The idea of a "ghost planet" also seems cool. Like if you could find a random planet where all life was wiped away leaving pristine buildings and a huge mystery (a la Serenity).

Yep Bolo, would be cool to have some kind of "reaver" event that makes a planet go nuts and spam attack ships all over the place. (would need to grow ships from somewhere though, since the reavers wouldn't produce their own).

Leaving a planet without population could give the chance of a minor "spawning" there, although that'd have a certain cheese factor to it. Just imagine being able to create minors. That's like having a goose laying *diamond* eggs.

What about some kind of ambush event to have vessels captured around a "reaver" like planet.

Or how about biological weapons like the critters from the Aliens series?

Or ancient ruins where you can set up an archeaology dig and discover new techs?

Or a planet where it was wiped out from a plague and all structures/ ships/ stations are still there with noone aboard?

food for thought
