Does the AI not like me for my Military weakness or strength?

I'm playing on Tough against nine players. I'm neutral, warm, or friendly with all. The thing all of them have in common is, they think of me as minus minus --Military Strength.

They all have militaries. I haven't built a single ship with weapons because the AI pops up and goes, "Oh you're so great. Here's some stuff for being so peaceful." So I'm an economic, industrial, technical powerhouse with no defensive ships. Everyone likes me or doesn't care about me. We're all trading like mad. What I'm asking is,

Does the AI think ill of me for not having a military or for being so ungodly far ahead of them in military research? The strongest of them only have Miniballs II and Impulse; whereas, I have Plasma Beams, Medium Hulls, and Warp Drive.

The AIs will look down on you if you are militarily weaker than they are (according to the military graph that is).

True. It is also possible to play with out military though as long as you have good trading, alot of diplomacy, and gift them a tech or three every once in a while.

Regardless of how nice and peaceful you are, the odds are they will come for you when they have taken care of other business.

The only way to avoid war is to be nice AND so strong they don't mess with you.

My last two games have been night and day.

In my previous game.. I did some "creative editing" to give myself a boost. because of that, I was easily leading in military power the entire game. I did not have war declared on me once.. and probably could have sat there quietly building an unstoppable armada, had I wanted to.

This latest game I made myself weaker in many ways, but gave myself a great starting planet. because of this, I have been weaker militarily the entire game.. and so far ive had 6 of the 8 other races declare war on me for no reason.

The computer definatly respects military power above all else.
