Can the player be informed of the declaration of war?

Would it be possible in a future upgrade for players to be informed when alien civilizations go to war? It's always feels a little off when I check the foreign relations screen after a while and see that a handful of wars have broken out without anyone telling me about it!

I believe it already does if you have sufficient espionage spending on the involved races.

I didn't see them informing about a war, although I've been informed when two warring civilizations made peace. May be someone can confirm this...

This has been my experience as well. Even when I "know more about them then they do themselves", I only get notifications of peace treaties, never when they went to war.

Ahh. Possible then. I've yet to recieve a war notification either, but I assumed it was because they went to war when I only had minimal espionage capabilities. (My former post was the case in GC1.)

Perhaps it's a bug?

Now what the heck would espionage have to do with war. The declaration of war is hardly a covert act.

Agreed. In Civ 4, it really helped me define my strategy by looking at whom was at war with whom. I can get this info by going to the relations screen, but do we really want to do that every turn? Maybe that can be added in...? Little bulletins...?

Confirmed ... I had MASSIVE espionage on the major races, and I never heard about war, only peace

Same here. In fact there's been a few times where peace was declared and I hadn't even known that there was a war to begin with!

Yeah we definitely need this. Someone should write this in the "Easy Tweaks" sticky post...

Since diplomatic relations between majors are public (at least, war/peace), espionage is irrelevant. I concur that announcements of major diplomatic events (war, peace, and alliance) between other races would be a welcome addition to GNN - I might even turn it back on.
