Well this game taught me quite a bit. Mainly minor races are a threat and you really can have allies.
Fun fun game. My goal was for anything but conquest.
Brief summary - I did not get most trade goods or get capitals very often or have more than two starbases. As you can see by my abilities moral was going to be a problem and if it stayed a problem...cash. I think I cheated the system somewhat because I guess the only reason to have approval above 50% is that means there is a planet out there with less than 50% and might revolt.

I did o.k. on the colony race secured a system and 1/3 of another. Arceans were nice from the start and the Iconians. Jessens were milk toast...Dark Yor not so passive. Did extensive trading in the begining...Terrans kept to themselves but the Korx were annoying. I shared a system with the Dark Yor and Terrans. I attacked the Dark Yor and lost horribly...they retaliated and nabbed my planet...opps and at the same time the Korx declared war. The Arceans sent me trade help. WHAT a game where a race sends cash to help...I knew it couldn't last.

But the Korx were at war with the Arceans too and were mostly distracted with them while I took out the Dark Yor. I kept seeing Krox come to my planets but the Arceans would intercept and crush em. I returned the favor by sending everything I knew to the Arceans and also focused on neutrality.

Dark Yor eliminated, made peace with Korx but sent cash and techs to Arceans. As well as to the Iconians who were far away and far underdeveloped. Terrans were just moving around building infuence...which was ticking everyone off. Jessens, Iconians, and Arceans all came to me talking about how the Terrans made them nervous. The Terrans were already eyeing me because of a massive buildup I had made.

The dark yor and terrans and I were all in one system I had a major build up to retake my planet and they assumed I was after them....hehe I actually pleaded to the computer "I'm not attacking you honest...it's the Dark Yor....you know the one I'm at war with? Take it easy." Must have worked. The Terrans never attacked after I made quick work of the Dark Yor and redistributed my ships.

After a quiet time the Arceans took on the Iconians (which had found a ranger). They pleaded and pleaded for help. I wasn't about to get involved in a war with a race I had supplied 1/2 of what I owned to. So I sent them techs and cash....in exchange for that ranger Well they lost...turned their estate to me. Soon after the Korx fell and gave their assets to the Terrans. Well needless to say I wasn't having that. Terrans were indeed putting the squeeze on the newly founded Arcean-Jones Boys alliance. I created a real armada and lined up for Earth. I mostly wanted to make a point. The Terrans were nearly an even matched force but soon after my attack the Arceans followed right behind. They send me ships and bases and I sent them cash. My begining choices were paying off. Most my bases were on full military production and spending and I was still making large amounts of cash. I focused on morality bonuses and entertainment and my taxes were jacked to the limit.

It was by far the most colorful strategy experience I have had. I was sure my alliance would fail but it just got insanely stronger. I focused on producing medium hull ships with 3 rank 3 missles and 4 shields. Could only put two in a fleet (14 logistics) together but the initial punches would blow through the Terran's fleets of small medium mix and their failed attempt to head down the ECM route on their large hulls. 6ecm just doesn't cut it against 18.

One thing I found funny was what the Arceans would give me. The first few times it was their non mining starbases....which did me no good since they were all in their territory and far from the Terrans. I tried giving them back for free brownie points but no sooner did they give them back. NOW could this be an exploit...was I getting free Kudos by giving back what they gave me? I only did it once...I then just sent them to the Iconians for tech trade knowing they'd soon be destroyed. So I don't know if they'd go back and forth if I tried.

I'm getting the hang of more and more of the information screens. Doing a quick at a glance morality survey. Picking where to put capitals, staying out of debt.

OH I was looking to see how to break an alliance. And well I loaded my end game save and wanted to see if I could beat the Arceans...I did easily. But the point is...that alliance breaker button needs a confirmation. Just a click and gone...which was ok for me but seems like it could be a problem.
