out of all the reviews, I found UGO's review to be the most balanced and accurate to date.
If anyone is debating whether or not to get the game, this is the review I'd pay the most attention to.
I don't necessarily agree with the reviewer that the lack of tactical combat is a minus, but *shrugs* I agree almost completely with everything else said.
cheers.

I'm tactical combat control agnostic personally. As long as it looks cool thats all that matters to me.

I'm extremely disappointed that the combat/weapons system is so simplified: opponents just take turns to 'alpha strike' each other Even the "fleet system" feels like it's more of a technical than tactical consideration: as in it's there to limit the number of ships so a 3D battle isn't too taxing and crash the PC, instead of providing for "tactical combat".
I really miss Stars! where there's
(1) no ship count limit,
multiple fleets can engage in same battle in multiple-corner fights
(2) ships have mobility factor, and weapons have firing priority system
no lame alpha striking. jamming even.
(3) true tactics selection.
each fleet can have different appropriate tactic, e.g. unarmed trading ships are "run first, don't fight", fighters are "aggressive"... Together with (2), it makes combat more meaningful... unarmed ships with superior engines have a chance to escape or stay aside while the escorts or fighters take it out.
If only GalCiv2 had at least implemented one of the above, or even everything

Very good review. I find their grading system a little "Fuzzy" and unclear however. how does an A- translate? 90%? 80%? argh.
