Stupid question time (help please)

I looked in the menu but I could not find any info on the effect of population. What does it gets you? What nenefit does increasing the pop cap of your colonies have on income or influence? I know it troops for your invasion but do they give you any benefit.

TAXES!!!!

People defend the planet from invasion, as well as making soldiers.

BUT, the biggest thing they provide is MONEY. Keep your approval high (tricky in itself) and you can be rolling in money from taxes.

Remember, research is ENTIRELY from labs, and manufacturing is ENTIRELY from factories (modifiers not withstanding).

But, money is mainly from taxes (some from tourists, much from trade).

Thanks, I know it has to do with income (should have said that in message) but I thought that it would affect the number of factory or labs that you can operate (but I didn't really see it in the game).

It does. Without money, you can't spend. If you can't spend, you can't research, make ships or even just develop your economy.

I often choose +30% economy and the federalists, to make sure I'm always running at 100% spending. What's the point of having a bonus to military production if you don't have the money to make use of it?

Plus, money can buy techs, can buy a peace, can rush buildings, etc...

High population worlds rock, but you still have to have the capacity to translate all that money in actual ships too.
