Flickering taskbar

Flickering taskbar

I'm having problems with my taskbar flickering when using some of the skins in WB5. The retro-skin seems fine, but iFlex and Cyclops makes my taskbar flicker every second or so..

I've tried to remove WB completely and reinstall it. I've also updated to the latest graphic-cars drivers.

Here is the info from the system-information:

Ok, I just bought the thing over again. I have the current version, 5.1 and the toolbar is still flickering. Now I'm pretty mad. A Stardock official told me my problem would be resolved by updating my program, which cost me $20. This didn't help at all. Infact, it is exactly the same except now my tabs under Start > All Prgrams collapse before I can even click them. Thank you for making my bad situation worse, Stardock! And thank you for wasting my $20!

I switch to my old skin and I don't have flickering, but I still have my Start > All Programs collapsing before I can even make a selection. It even does this in my ORIGINAL XP skin.

say trial

did you uninstal and and reboot before downloading/installing via SDC?

go back to XP default - this will also unload WB

move your skins folder somewhere

run The Zapper .

It will completely clean out WB.

Then redownload and reinstall WB

Ok, nvm, I had to like right click it and access some nearly-hidden "registration" where I had to enter my code a second time. It's asking me to restart my computer again. For a second time. I'll be back in a few.

Ok, it seems like the flickering is finally gone. Now just about those collapsing menus... whatever you wanna call em. They just like disapear almost immediately after they expand.

files/dates now in order

menus.....

graphics drivers up to date?

you talking about the all programs?

I get that once in a while if I move my mouse slightly off focus
Reply #40 Top
are you clicking 'all programs' or just holding your mouse over it?
Yah, my graphics drivers are up to date. And yah, I'm talking about the "All Programs". I had this problem ever since I started using WB I think, and it went away about a month ago unexpectedly. Dunno how I got it to happen. Back now though

Thanks though for helping me out with this flickering

no problem, you're welcome

I started getting taskbar flickering with the version prior to the current one, which is still doing it. Most commonly occurs when changing printers or when plugging in a USB device. I have WFX loaded, but am not using taskbar transparency.

I've never had ClipMate on my rig. Only recent software addition has been ID Works Basic by Datacard, aside from routine Windows & Office updates.

do your file dates match the ones in reply #36?

STATUS : WB+ SRV+ HLP+ UI+ TRAY+

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC.

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

Your machine does not support per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

This is because :

Your computer graphics hardware does not support acceleration of per pixel alpha. WindowBlinds requires this for per pixel alphablended borders as without it performance would be poor. Please see if you can obtain new drivers for your graphics hardware. Recent ATI & NVIDIA boards should support this feature. Onboard graphics tend not to.

You have one monitor in total.

I don't know Daiwa - the hour thing I think has to do with where you are and where the server are. No biggie.

Your computer graphics hardware does not support acceleration of per pixel alpha

does using either (or both) of the 'click here if you have an issue' buttons at the bottom of system info help any?
I'll give those a try & report back. Flickering was never an issue until recently for me, perhaps the past 3 iterations of WB at most.

Thanks for your help.

Daiwa: If you get a single flicker when a system setting changed then that is normal.  This will only happen on skins with per pixel alpha taskbars.

A constant flicker is not normal though.

Thanks for chiming in, Neil.

The skin is one I created, no per-pixel in it at all. The taskbar will flicker 6-8 times as the SysTray gets loaded on boot-up. It then flickers 1-3 times when certain windows are opened or certain actions occur. I can reliably reproduce a single flicker of the entire taskbar each time I put a printer offline or back online in the Printers & Faxes dialog, for instance. Is that the kind of system setting you're referring to? At times, with other actions it seems only portions of the taskbar flicker. As I said this is a relatively recent issue - it is so pronounced that I doubt seriously I would have failed to notice it earlier.

'Preciate your help.
