lots of forum bugs...

1st off,its litterally impossible for me to create a NEW post in the 'GalCiv II->Metaverse' forum , yes i select it in topic and it just winds up in the general forum. this suxs as i would love to use it to try and recruit for my metaverse empire, I'm using firefox 1.5.0.1

2nd the charactor 'Gryndilow' mysteriously showed up in my charactors, taking up my 3rd spot....dunno who this is and nor did i or anyone (i'm the only one on this comp ever...) else create this charactor tho i'm sure some poor guy somewhere lost his charactor 'Gryndilow' and is now saddend by it.

3rd its impossible to delete charactors made....such as the 'Gryndilow' that mysteriously showed up in my charactors or my 'Dreadlord LiTh' char whom i would wish to delete, i currently use Imperator LiTh and am happy about it except EVERYTIME i start a new metaverse name since dreadlord lith is on the top slot it shows up everytime and i must reselect Imperator LiTh...this is more a hassle than a bug, but the before mentioned is it seems to me.

Thanks in advance i love this game, i do notice a few in game bugs but i will make a better list of those when i can.

Loyal stardock patron
p.s. part of the bug...this winded up in the normal gal civ2 forum instead of the topic i chose 'GalCiv II->Bug Reports'

1st. The thread creation issues you describe are actually by design. The "General" forum is more appropriately described as a *.* type of forum. All posts are browsable from here despite the sub-forum they might be associated with. Just an FYI: I came across this post while searching the "Bug Reports" forum.

2nd, 3rd. These would be something I'd have to report to the web team. I'll be honest, that I'm not sure specifically how you would go about deleting a character, but I'll ask about it and let you know.

We appreciate your interest and any feedback you can offer. I look forward to your bug report...we're all interested in making this game the best it can be!

No, I think he has a legitimate bug there. I've encountered it too. If I create a new post, no matter what I choose for the sub-forum, the post ends up ONLY in the general forum. It doesn't show up in the sub-forum I selected. I'm using Opera 8.52 on Windows.

cliffski2 - Remove cookies for stardock.com, galciv2.com or any variation on those. Or simply delete all cookies. Then head to the forums and log in. It's likely you have a cookie conflict.

My name is always displayed as welcome "null".
The bonus rating has an error when using the trolling option in the pop-up.

Is it just me or does the "Watch" function not work?

I keep looking for notification options and I can't find any.

I would like to receive an email when someone posts to the topics I am "watching". Is this possible?

Had this problem, "If I create a new post, no matter what I choose for the sub-forum, the post ends up ONLY in the general forum." Also I could not see my own posts in the general Galciv2 forum but they would show up if I hit the My Posts button.

I removed cookies all my stardock and galciv2 cookies. Firefox 1.5 has a nice search feature to find them. Had 3 or 4 of each. Problem was solved.

Sorry, had to bump this one.

Ok, for me, this forum has all kinds of bugs.

1) When I go to my posts, nothing comes up.
2) The listings are never up to date for me. Recent threads that I have have posted in don't show up in the listings. i.e. if a post is listed on the left as a recent post i can find it, but then when it is gone, i can't find it listed anywhere.
3) The search does not work. Try searching for AI. Then search of AI and a word that occurs in some of the posts that the AI search returned. You will get nothing back.
4) Poorly organized, it is hard to tell what area of the forums you are in half the time.

Suggestion: Scrap this forum and pick one of the many open source freeware versions available.

QFT.

Love the game, but the forums are some of the worst I've seen. I have yet to get the watch button to do anything either except give me some kind of pool error or timeout and the search button is useless. IMO the design decision with everything being one forum with filters is poor as well.

Nice features common to other forums is being able to log in, click a button and see all posts that you have posted in (not just created) in the last 90 days or so with a colored icon change for ones that someone has posted in after you.

Being able to search a username to find their posts.

The ability to mark a thread to watch and click a button to just show your watched threads.

The ability to rank a thread for your viewing purposes. For example I set my interest to high on a thread it shows at the top of the list in that forum for me (below the stickies) until I change it.

The ability to preview a post before you post it unless I'm just missing that one.

Hate to pile on -- but I have to agree....

The forum is quite hard to navigate and not that I'm an expert or anything -- but I've spent my fair share of time lurking, reading, posting in other forums (HOI, EU, OOTP, CIV3/4, etc) and really do find this one the hardest to get around and interact in. I just posted a duplicate bug report -- not because I didn't diligently try to see if it had been previously reported (I did -- for about 30 minutes), but because I was couldn't find it. Then, almost immediately after I post -- I randomly ran across it.

In particular -- there's a noticeable lack of back navigation links (i.e., posting in a topic.... then to get back to that topic -- you.....?)

Watch never worked for me.
I'll jump on this bandwagon. I agree that the forum is not the best. Would much prefer a civ4 or x3 style forum.

I've been completely unable to create a new thread in the bugs forum. I started with a brand new account, first post gave me trouble, so it can't be cookie conflicts. I've tried both the latest IE and Firefox, no luck. Not to mention it takes forever to see my post appear in the list.

This website needs better forum software. The longer the wait to upgrade, the more painful it will be, might as well scrap it now.

ou cant even log onto the forums in firefox...

Piffle, I'm running it now.

But overall, I gotta agree, these forums are really not comfortable to use.

Yup I agree this BBS blows, worst I have ever tried to use, dump it.

I've tried to post a thread in the Game Talk forum 4 times but after I click create it always says it's in
the GalCiv forum. When I go to look at the latest posts in the main GalCiv page I see none of my messages.
Although the posts exist if I hit the 'my posts' button.

I just want to ask a simple question but can't seem to be able to do it.

The second quote is mine, but I changed my name and can no longer edit posts under my old name. I can see the edit button, but when I click it the forum pukes. This is one of many problems with this BBS. When I said the above quote I didnt think of the possibility that you all wrote it, if you did sorry ... sort of. There is way too much fluff, it is a Forum, not a video game, just needs to work, doesnt have to look pretty. If you bought it, bite the bullet and buy another one. If its a homebrew, use some of that new cash influx too buy a professional frontend.

Please refrain from the 'useless' statements guys. It's unnessesary and makes going through posts that much more difficult, trying to decipher legitimate issues from banter. Please help us out in that regard.

We're all very much aware of the issues with the forums and are working towards fixing them on a daily basis. We appreciate your suggestions and do actually make note of them.

Please do make a note that the Watch feature on the forums here is currently pretty much broken. We have a fix for that among others and will be implementing it 'soon'.

Prima Giedi - Thanks for reporting the nickname issue. We've made some changes that will (from this point on) hopefully propigate to correct this here and in several other places.
