[bug] Ship upgrade and removing parts

version 1.0X.010

I'm using windows XP pro 32 bit ver, running the game full screen (or sometimes windowed) at 1024x768 resolution, same as my desktop which is set at 32 bit color.
Running gal civ 2 ver 1.0X.010 from stardock.

Sometimes when removing things (by clicking on it in the installed parts list) on a ship (especially when doing an upgrade) they stay in the list of parts, although they can not be clicked on anymore. Often if you try to remove another piece by selecting it form the list, the first part gets put back in. Finding and then clicking a part manually on the 3d ship screen, then clicking remove works fine though. No error message shows with this bug.
If more detail is needed to reproduce this I can mention step by step info and can provide save games or screenshots.

Note that the post immediately below this contains an additional bug that seems to be differant (although perhaps related), with ship designing and removing parts and getting an error message.

Edit: After the patch, this bug is still present, though in a stranger form. When you do an upgrade, and remove a jewelry component (engines, etc, are removed after clicking upgrade which was a change introduced by a patch), then click the component list again, often the original engines and stuff will be put BACK into the upgraded design, as well as that jewelry component that was just removed. I suppose that quirk could be used by people who want everything present when they click on upgrade, but its a bit difficult to selectivly remove components with the design screen behaving this way.

How I reproduce this:

Step 1) Build a fancy ship because it's just so much fun. From the base 'small' chassis, throw on your engine, weapons, modules, whatever you were going to do.

2) Add the first 'fin' module, two of them, then place antennas on the fins.

3) Try to delete the fin, this should get you an error ("you can't do that because stuff is atatched to them").

4) Iterating through the end of the list of objects to remove objects works, but the object's icon remains on the list of installed objects. This latter bit is a (seemingly cosmetic) bug.

I found that if I scroll the objects list to the left or right, the deleted object icons disappear.

This isn't on brad's "known" list.

I think that may be a differant bug with those particular components, or perhaps a combination of the bug I came across and your component bug.
Mine is just that it will seem to let you remove it (no error message) but it puts it back on. If you use the list of parts installed on the right to select and remove it. If you manually locate the part from the 3d view, select it, then click remove, it actually removes it.
But good find on that other bug. I'll update my OP to indicate you found a bug as well.

Very annoying bug -- I've had it too. In fact, I couldn't figure out how to upgrade for a good 2/3 hours because I had to just redesign ships from scratch!

I'll add that I've run into this bug. I was able to succesfully upgrade, on two occasions the first when I was correcting a typo in the name, and the second when I relized I had made a mistake and needed to change an engine. However on a seperate attempt, when I needed to remove two components the component I removed kept on reappering when I tried to remove the second component.

Another bug I've found during upgrading;

Deleting is all good, but if you hit any icon in the list of objects EVERYTHING re-appears on the ship and its back to its default state. I dont know about other people but this happens *every* time I attempt to upgrade. Its generally not a problem as I can just click things and remove them but sometimes I cant find armour/sensors :/

Yes the bug is here , what it seems to happen that you can't remove several "items" one by one - remove one , put new , remove another - put new etc ... otherwise the old part will "return" .
defenatly a bug.

Yep, both of your guys above 2 points are exactly the bug I'm referring to (I think they are both a related bug, but they might be 2 differant ones). Yours were better written though.

Also running into this bug and I've noticed something else. The "you can't do this" pop-up pops up under the build screen so I don't even see them until I've exited (at which point I have like 200 suxh pop-ups).

Bumping because this bug is actually still present with an additional twist in 1.0X.010
Details are in OP
