Quick questions on weapons and combat...

Hey Knowers of Stuff,

2 Quickies here:

1) Are there any subtle but inherent differences between the three weapons types? Like do missiles, for example, tend to fire slower but do more damage compared to the beams or guns of the same level?

2) Can ships suffer system damage or is it an all or nothing affair (working at full power until their last hit point is spent)?

1) the weapon types do have a difference. It is basically amounts to: Missiles do lots of damage, but takes lots of space and costs more to put on your ships. Lasers take less space, and are cheap to put on your ships, but do little damage. Mass drivers are average, taking average space and doing average damage.

Overall, they tend to be near equal in the amount of actual firepower that can be put on target, regardless of which branch you choose.

2) Ships suffer damage. They do not suffer a loss of functionality, just lost hit points. When all the hit points of a ship is gone, it is destroyed.

Okay, cool to know.

And, if what you say is true, Star Pilot, I guess there is a bit of strategic decision making going on there since I hear each weapon rolls its attack independently. In the same space, therefore, a few missiles could add up to some pretty big variability in damage whereas a huge bank of lasers will more than likely give you very average results, no (all things being equal)? So while they may all give you a pretty similar bang for your buck you get to decide if you want more or less potential variability in your damage.

There were a couple of Dev Journals during the beta that covered this stuff in detail:

Armour: https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=92779

Weapons: https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=92767

If that doesn't tell you more than you possibly wanted to know, I don't know who could.
