Starbase upgrade question

One thing that I did not understand from reading the manual involved upgrading starbases with modules. Do you have to send a constructor ship to a starbase every time you want to upgrade the starbase? Or can the starbase construct upgrades itself?

You send a constructor each time. Just like in the original. Think about it as a ship carrying a premade module and the ship is salvaged as well to add to the base.

Thanks! Seems cumbersome but no biggie.

Read up on Rally points, that may help with the management.

Yes its really not cumbersome. Can set some colonies to be building a constructor and have them send to a rally point thats a starbase. When that base is all built up, can go onto another. The rally points are so cool, even if the ships are in mid-flight, you can order them all to a different rally point instead.

Once I started including starbases into my games I found whatever win strategy I use, the bases are very helpful not to mention, owning the resources are key too.

Oh yeah! The resources are critical for a player of my low skills and don't forget the anomalies. If you don't think they are important, watch the AI snap them up. I sometimes ignore them until too late in small map games and it often comes back to bite me in the form of a stronger than neccessary AI.
