Alignment UI?

I've been playing the demo of GalCiv 2 for a week or so now and one thing I have been missing from GalCiv1 is the "alignment UI". What I mean by that is the UI would change based on your alignment. Grey for Neutral, blindingly white for Good and black/red for Evil.

While this doesn't seem to be present in the Beta, I'm hoping that it will be in the final release. Any word on if we'll be seeing this in the final release or if it's been dropped with the revamp to the 3D UI?

The new UI is much more involved, and there were so many other things that were higher priority, so good/neutral/evil UIs have been excluded in the initial retail version.

I believe Brad has said that they hope to add them in with a later bonus pack or expansion, though.

Ah well, the new UI looks so much better I'll live without the good/neutral/evil UI variants for now. Here's hoping they make it into a bonus pack

If you stray from your chosen alignment after xeno ethics have been researched and paid for what happens? Anything? Do the advantages such as the defensive and offensive tools get recalculated?

I believe all the previous event bonuses/penalties remain in place. However the further along you are towards 1 side of the alignment tree, the heavier the cost is to switch.

For example, I was playing a scenario today... the map was medium or so, with 9 AIs (plus the dreadlords !!) so there were only a few planets to colonize... so there were only a few events for me to "lean towards good"... before I could research Xeno Ethics there was a random event on Earth that I ended up choosing the neutral option... so when it came time to choose my alignment I was barely on the good side but now considered "leaning toward neutral", it cost 2500bc to go with Good, 0bc for Neutral, 10,000bc for evil.

So you can just imagine what the cost might be if you had colonized say 40 planets on a gigantic map choosing the evil bonus each time... then switching to Good via Xeno Ethics...

I believe the actual question is: After you get Xeno Ethics and choose "Good", what happens if you keep choosing the "Evil" option on random events?

Choosing the "Evil" events will cause you to slide away from "Good" but would you still keep the "Good" bonuses? To extrapolate further, what would happen if you started your "slide toward Evil" after building the Temple of Righteousness?

I need to experiment with this myself

Exactly.... what happens... in my beta experience I tried to stay where I selected by monitoring the alignment screen. But if nothing bad happens... hehehehehe whats a little evil or good for that matter gonna hurt if no one else knows... thats not a dinner guest so to speak.

In the beta there seems to be no penalty for choosing whatever in the random events.

The reward/penalty for the three choices is often not important enough to push you one way or the other. I am usually a neutral player but if the reward is sufficient I will occasionally choose the dark choice.

Unless I set out to be 100% pure evil, I typically stick with the good choices... that is unless a super bonus pops up, like 20-40+% PQ, +starship, etc... (they're just too good (err, heh) to pass up)
