Here is a new beta of Google Desktop.

"Google Desktop gives you easy access to information on your computer and from the web. It's a desktop search application that provides full text search over your email, computer files, music, photos, chats and web pages that you've viewed. By making your computer searchable, Google Desktop puts your information easily within your reach and frees you from having to manually organize your files, emails and bookmarks. It makes searching your computer as easy as searching the web with Google."

I saw this and the search remote PC's over the internet seems cool.

I did wonder though . . . does google actually transfer your files to their servers and you access them there or does it have a connection to the remote PC.

Maybe I'll look closer if no one knows here.

Thanks for the heads up IslandDog.

It looks interesting. Haven't been able to try it out (and unistalled it last time I tried it because I don't like sacrificing that screen space), but it looks like they are making some of the panels pseudo-widgets? Like you can drag them off the sidebar and anywhere onto the desk?

Just might try it out again.

it seems it may, if you don't configure it carefully, see the following link

I'm willing to give up soem email privacy (because I know it's not secure and I never use it for private information} but my files . . . Uh uh. To exclude what I don't want shared would be a pain, and if I don't have access to those private files it serves no purpose.

it looks like when you install the prog, it is set, by default, not to share your files, so no excluding needed...

been playing with it for a little while now, and it is actually a pretty cool sidebar..shame you can't skin it though

Installed, then uninstalled 30 seconds later. Too busy, too unasthetic, to useless for me.
