I wonder...is it the general air of smugness that pisses people off about Americans? :) Oh, and "To me this seems entirely in line with the British style of partially cooperating in European community activities, but wanting to stubbornly hold onto their independence and pride in doing things on their own..." Swap 'British' for 'American' and 'European' for 'World' and the article is even more spot on! Don't get me wrong I think there's a lot of truth in the article, but :

You get to see more on Page 3 of The Sun newspaper in England so I don't see what all the fuss was about. Also, it was an MTV production...excuse me, what did they expect? Have any of the Superbowl organisers watched an MTV channel ever? The whole thing was obviously intentional (any doubts see this photo-gallery from the BBC web site : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other_sports/us_sport/photo_galleries/3450553.stm ) and really...there are an awful lot of things going on in
What happens if you look at a weight and see half of it as imperial and half of it as metric? Simple, you underestimate your weight by a whole stone... It was always going to start on the 1st February (the exercise regime started 1st January) but now...oh my oh my... :( Apart from that...the Fridge is now on eBay (see the link below) and in the first 4 hours reached £50! Only hope it hasn't peaked too soon. Good news work wise is that I am now officially cleared to work as a teacher in
It's 4pm on Saturday afternoon and I'm sat typing this. I've been sat at this computer or reading or sleeping for the past 36 hours. The exception was yesterday evening when I went to Dad's house with Mum. Exciting... I received confirmation that all my checks have been completed. I am no longer an axe-murderer in the eys of the state and I can teach in England again! So now I have to wait for the supply register to come out (not sure when that's going to be - had better 'phone them!) and ma
So, the great freeze is here...Nan still has all the windows open. Mum loves her new car. At badminton last night I was OK, Good, Pisspoor. In that order. Off to the gym in an hour. I might be off to Aberystwyth on Friday but the weather might win. It's a long enough journey as it is without having to go slowly because of the ice. Don't like the weather getting the better of me but...we'll see - I'm monitoring the situation. I have to say something about that git...does anyone really have a
Update...went up to see Mark & lou at the weekend. Did a very nice (if animal excrement covered) walk along the coast on Saturday and had a wander around York on Sunday. As ever, a very pleasant weekend in and around Thirsk. Mum has a new car - a Vauxhall Calibra. We're picking it up today. Dad's car was picked up yesterday...the heated seat has moved on, apparently to be fitted with a Cosworth Turbo engine! Gave blood yesterday...Ok so long as they don't show me the needle, and snoo
Two replies if I may... "Sad about Africa. One would think we could find some way of sending it over there. Or one of the other countries in the world would pick up the slack. Why do we seem to be the only ones doing anything?" Sad? Tragic more like... DDT isn't the answer. What is, is genetically altering the mosquito in the same way that was done for the screw fly in Central America. There, screw flies that had been altered to have
...he gets what's coming to him today! Fingers crossed...
There might not be...I feel... I can't put it into words actually but I'm looking forward to this weekend away.
...there used to be a place where I could put down what I was listening to...now there isn't. This is it then : I took my love, I took it down Climbed a mountain and I turned around I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills 'Till the landslide brought me down Oh, mirror in the sky What is love Can the child within my heart rise above Can I sail through the changing ocean tides Can I handle the seasons of my life Well, I've been afrai
Little did I know when I posted an entry on small children that I would receive 'hate mail'. Well, comments having a mild go at me anyway. The general feeling was that I was out of order. That I shouldn't be so horrible about children. They're lovely and if they become too much of a focus either it's the parents' fault, or my fault for feeling insecure at not being the centre of attention. Not the child though. I am a teacher. Of children. Crucially though the children I teach (and enjoy wo
This evening I lost them all...still have them before that date, but that's the thing about e-mails isn't it - they've replaced letters but they so much more easily lost or destroyed. Shame. Anyway, if you've written to me recently and I forget to write back - that's why. Sorry in advance.
I have now been to the gym twice. It is just as I remembered it - deeply dull and unpleasant. I have however been following my regime to the letter and thankfully it's not too bad. I have therefore been able to get in and out in three quarters of an hour and feel good about things. I have also lost half a pound in the last week. Impressive. I would also like to point out in light of a previous entry that although I find children less interesting than adults they are not animals and so theref
Just returned from badminton, and a very enjoyable night it was too. It's coming back to me, but I just wish I was tactically more aware. The things I do are all a bit hit and miss. I play well enough and win games but...I think I need a bit of coaching to move on. I'll see what I can do. Off to bed now, the gym beckons in less than 8 hours...
It happened again today. I went out and ended up in a house with four other adults and a small child. The adults lost thier ability to hold down a conversation for any longer than 15 seconds, because after that they all had to sit looking at this small child doing something absolutely wonderful with a cardboard tube. I just don't understand it because small children are just not interesting, and yet people end up just gazing at them with blissed out looks on their faces. I do try desperately to
Well would you believe it! It's been posted on eBay this very evening... I might run a book on how much it goes for (and make more money that way!) The result of this will be very interesting!
It's been a busy one...and it went like this : Monday The dentist. My first check up in a year and I knew what he was going to say. "Wonderful teeth, but your gums will need serious looking after. So I'm back to see the hygieniest (sp?) in six months. I really don't mind going to see the dentist, but then people such as myself who are blessed with strong teeth (touch wood!) probably never do as they seldom need anything done. One thought that did occur to me when I was being scr
In answer to certain amounts of feedback, the tone of this item is deliberately over the top... A stalker I am not! :)
Thanks for all the comments...I'm about to enter the world of selling on eBay, and I intend to be as open and as honest as possible! I hope it goes well and I'll bear the suggestions in mind.
Of a great thing (I can hardly type I'm so excited about this!) - I went into town today to spend the record vouchers I was given for Christmas and I found... GRRR! It's Betty Boo on CD! I am, as I type, listening to one of the finest recordings ever made, a deeply misunderstood work which saw her dropped by her record company... Betty has of course made a recent comeback under her real name (Alison Clarkson) as a song writer for Hear Say. This should come as no surprise as there are hooks, melo
I've recently been hit by the Ebay bug. I've bought several items on it in a short period of time, lured by low prices, the excitement of bidding, and the sheer novelty of buying things from complete strangers off the street. I think I'm still hooked, but really I've not had much success. Buying over the internet is great, but you can't actually see the items can you? I bought a guitar that looked great but when I received it it had detail problems that I'm going to have to get fixed before I ca
After problems elsewhere I'm trying out JoeUser.com. Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't...
