So, on an Athlon64, the AI should really take no juice at all.... Since of course it's more powerful than a PIV... of course, for the PIV folks, it would be nice if the game was multithreaded efficiently (it may be, I dunno)...

I've had that happen in Firefox with much older versions of WB... When it happens, I've found it's usually due to a specific combination of WB skin and FFox skin (probably that results in certain tab margins as Neil has suggested). Change either the fox skin or the WB skin, and the problem goes away.

Neil, none of this has helped. I reinstalled WB5, making sure to set the themes as you said... I also tried the disablestage1 value you suggested. I'm still having high cpu usage with some themes. StealthOS is one of the worst, with 50% cpu usage while updating a screen (that takes 3% unthemed).. Edit: I clicked on the option "Never use Per Pixel borders" on system information, and the CPU usage dropped to normal.... Shouldn't the per pixel

I updated the original post with some examples of the cpu usage of an open Task Manager window with various blinds applied... I'm not seeing any particular pattern.. I thought it was blending that might've been the problem, but then I ran Arrow, and it came in with the lowest cpu usage of all of them... Makes no sense. I'll try uninstalling WB5 and reinstalling.. There *was* a quirk when I reinstalled it - after rebooting, it brought up the

I upgraded my WB from 4.9 RC3 to the final release today (delayed because the upgrade wouldn't take, and I had to uninstall 4.9 manually before installing 5).. After rebooting, I noticed my mouse was noticibly "jerky".. thinking it must be low batteries, I replaced them... No improvement. I checked CPU usage, and it turns out that a program that was updating its GUI every 500ms was sucking 50-75% CPU. I found that odd, because the particul

Having CPU usage problems here myself with 5.. I was running 4.9 RC3, and everything was fine. Had difficulty upgrading, so I had to uninstall WB and reinstall for the newer version. Now, I get heavy CPU usage (50-70%) with some skins, particularly the ones with WB5 features (transparency, etc).. I have a Radeon 9800 and Athlon64 3500+, and System Info on WB5 shows that everything is just peachy - but it seems to be hitting the system CPU in

I'm having this problem as well. Cxp cursors go 'behind' my WB5 windowframes... I have to watch for the glow on the min/max/close buttons to know which one I've reached, as the cursor is behind the window decorations at that point. Almost always happens after playing fullscreen games. It may seem like I've raised a dead horse to beat, but the problem hasn't ever been addressed by anyone from Stardock that I can see, and it's quite annoying.<

On my system, I updated a whole slew of things at the same time I put RC3 on, started getting incessant explorer.exe crashes, blaming ntdll.dll. After much hairpulling, I discovered the source of the crashes to be related to IconPackger, which I updated at the same time, not WB... If I don't load IconPackager, then things are just spiffy. Load IconPackager, and it goes crasherific.

I've a question... with this new activation system that WB5 is using, what happens when my OD subscription runs out? In the past I could still install an archived version that I'd downloaded while the subscription was active. With the new activation method, will installing from the archive copy after the subscription runs out still be possible?

The best excercise for the computer geek is repetitive beating on the keyboard when windows locks up. Keeps the arm muscles healthy. Walking across the room to the router to reboot it on a regular basis helps for the cardio system.

I haven't tried a beta of GalCiv in quite a while, and it worked before (beta 2 I believe). I just tried the latest beta, and it crashes on load every time. I am running an Athlon64 3500+ with 1GB Ram, XP service pack 2. ATI Radeon 9800 XT with latest drivers. Here is the exception report: Stardock SmartException Logging Information ------------------------------------------- OS Version : Windows XP

For the #1 Yearling award... what are they counting as #1 year? I have that as an Author Award, but I've only been a member since 03.... Does it refer to the newly designed website specifically?

Man, looking at the code there reminds me how much I miss MUD coding .... of course, MUDs are yesterday... and I don't know anything about graphics programming, so I'm SOL...
