While I was hoping for 1.08 for the weekend, better something that is fully tested! What I'm most curious about is how Essence/Mana is going to change, now that I'm used to the individual mana pools of my champions how will play be affected? If Essence becomes on/off what is the advantage to having magical children as opposed to just imbuing more hired guns?
Here's another take -- you have the rich-in-food freely giving to the poor-in-food, sharing their resources for free (as there is no 'tax' or 'cost' generated when the poor-in-food get the food). Thus this is a socialistic, perhaps even communistic, system!
Ah touche! Even distribution to all ensures the growth and prosperity of the workers! The people are the only true capital of society (thus why a car
Three days ago I convinced my brother to pick up Elemental. Like me he had played MoM back in the day so that was an easy sell. After just one day he took it over to a friend's house. That friend played for an hour then bought it on Impulse. Now he is out spreading the word to his other gamer friends. As of 1.07 at least Elemental really sells itself, and I would encourage everyone in the community to tell your friends! This weekend I'll be bringing some of my Xbox friends over to my
Does it also seem like the damage values in AutoCalc are different from what you get in tactical combat? When I read the report from an AutoCalc battle my damage, especially spell damage, is WAY higher than the numbers I see in tactical.
From reading the Dev notes I'm pretty sure we are going to end up with a system where you start with NO books (or at least there would be less reason to pick a starting book) and be able to research any book you want. Which I'm OK with as long as they introduce more "wizard picks" at the start to still allow customization and re-playability. If I start the game and find a water shard nearby, then I can start my research down the water path. Each game would be fluid (pardon the pun) in that I
Agree with "level 1" building growing as city grows. Even if the Merchant just went: L1 - 1, L2 - 1.5, L3 - 2, L4 - 2.5, L5 - 3 (and same with arcane and tech) that would be a big help!
The 'logic' behind caravans essentially creating food out of thin air escape me. If food is too hard to get, there are better ways. As NTJedi points out, a lot of work went into caravans, and not wanting said work to be wasted, caravans could be required to tie a city into the global food pool. It's logical and it'd add supply lines -- strategy -- to this strategy game. Creating, defending, and cutting supply lines w
I agree that what is missing from Elemental compared to MoM is the ability to magically customize your sovereign. Playing a strictly Sorcery (blue) wizard was a very different experience than playing a strictly Chaos (red) wizard in MoM. If I decide to only learn Fire spells then I want a bonus of some sort (faster research, less mana cost, more effect, etc.). As it stands in Elemental today my only motivation is to pump up my overall spell level then cherry pick out the spells from e
If you had asked me before I got my hands of Elemental if all I really wanted was MoM with better graphics, I would have said yes. But now that I've been playing Elemental I realize that innovation is good, and while there are some things I'm immediately missing (e.g. having different numbers of spellbooks to give meaningful "color" - pun intended - to different wizards) I have to say I'm very impressed so far.
I agree that the dynasty system should be the ultimate solution; why go out of their way to say "1st in line for the throne of X" if that situation can never actually arise? Your faction is vulnerable to regicide until you have grown heirs, and after that you have to wipe out the whole family. I would bet that is where the game is heading, as they listed the works of George Martin as one of the influences. MoM had the spell Guardian Wind, which made the target unit practically invulne

I am having the same issue as Jamest65 when I try to create a character: Exception : Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.s Please copy this message (Control + C) and notify the site administrators. Then it sits on "Processing Data"
I say keep them unbalanced. It was part of the game's appeal. I would rather sacrifice multiplayer than have balanced races/spells/heros/etc.
Thanks Cari, that did it!
Is it just me? I tried submitting two different games today (7/14/04) and neither posted. I get the submit screen, but after I press submit it goes straight to the title screen and the metavese doesn't show my game.
I would like to offer a counterpoint to the people who argued that "it's all about the mechanics" and "screw the name, just make the game." I, for one, am hungering for a true MOM sequal, not a "MOM inspired" "fantasy themed civ like" game. I want to see the same roster of magicians. I want to see my old friends, the Heroes and Champions. If I don't see Bagtru the Orc Warrior, Warrax the Chaos Mage, and Torin the Chosen One, I'll go berserk!
Tarvok makes a good point. In
Every review I've read for the last 10 years, for any game that was even REMOTELY like a fantasy based 4X game, has stated that a sequel to MoM is long overdue. It then goes on to say that game ___ is no MoM. I still play MOM. It was actually getting re-addicted to MOM that broke my GalCiv addiction last fall ;) Its gameplay still holds up. I posted this like 8 months ago: you guys are the only company I'll trust now to do it right. I'll go round up 5,000 people on my own if I have to.<
I tried to register on the MWC website but it didn't send me the confirmation email. I tried registering again but it said my email was already registered. So I told it I lost my password and it says it sent it to my email, but the email never arrived. Does the site have a problem with Hotmail addresses, or am I missing something?
Sweet! I look forward to the expansion - StarDock is awesome! Now make all my dreams come true; get the rights to Master of Magic and make the long-awaited sequel to the best 4X game ever. You are the only people who could do it right! ;)
Since I do live in the Mid-west, I went ahead and joined your empire - which has put the Mid-West Confederation into 2nd place for the moment. I won't be playing in the upcoming weeks quite as much as I have this past month, but I figured I may as well let my scores contribute. Happy gaming to all! [Message Edited]
Good thing I haven't kept most of my old saves, otherwise the temptation would be pretty strong to go resubmit them all. This is going to really skew the metaverse if not adressed.
kryo_ I have no idea what I did to score 56K on a medium. It was just a save game I reloaded and resubmitted. Either there is some glitch where a game started under 1.10 but finished under 1.11 scores much higher than it should, or else there is some new scoring criteria we don't know about. Actually here is a theory - consider this post from Frogboy: "+ AI difficulty DECREASED. Because of all these changes, the AI should be much harder to beat in theory so the AI difficulty ha
A medium maso that scored 32K rescored to 56K. A small maso at 28K rescored to 46K. However, I also played a small maso start to finish in 1.11 and "only" scored 30K. The only significant difference between those two small games (other than one started 1.10 and the other didn't) was that in the first I ended pure evil against the pure good altarians, and in the other I ended pure evil agianst the evil Yor and neutral Arcians. So it is possible allignment difference make up a huge part of
I haven't read Reynolds yet, thanks for the tip!
My 2 cents. The easiest way to survive on Maso is to ensure you have a planet advantage. If you can manage 3-4 planets for each 1 AI planet, it becomes much harder to lose. The other thing to remember is that diplomacy is your friend. Even without resorting to the 1 IP trick, a good bribe (say, 100-500 credits, or a tech) every year or so will keep most of the AI's off your back if you took some solid diplomatic skill picks. The only tricky part is to actually remember to check the rela
