The description of this project reads "This Galactic Wonder will vastly increase our sensor range." Does anyone know how "vast" this improvement is? How many squares improvement per ship? Would it improve a Dreadnought to have the view radius of a sensor drone for instance?
Drizzt_DoUrden
Yes Staffa, the 'blind fleet' issue has recently motivated me to add a sensor drone to all warship fleets (e.g. a fleet of Dreadnoughts and Combat Transports). Really helps a lot.
Ah yes Matty, now you are thanking me for all those annoying emails! I'm trying to recruit others, but they must have too much lead in their atmosphere or something. I'd have to agree it's my favorite strategy game to date. But even the updated manual is inadequate. But let's face it, it would be a nightmare to try to completely document this game. Too much complexity and subtlety. The Forum is the only answer (and JavaScout certainly helps!). So many cool helpful people.
By the time you research the technology to build these guys, aren't all the anomolies and other 'goody-huts' pretty much gone from the map by then? Anyone have an opinion or advice on this? They're still decent ships, but ...
The Yor had declared war on me. The Arceans were allies with the Yor. I had military superiority over the Arceans, so I beat them up a bit and then sold them a peace treaty. The next turn, they told me "You are at war with my ally, so I regretfully must declare war on you also." OK, we're at war again. I went to the Diplo screen and sold them another peace treaty. Not cheaply either, mind you. Next turn, they said the same thing. Sold them another treaty, etc. etc. until they ran out of
Or they clicked on your trade money-slider to see how much cash you have :) That's funny though. They didn't ask you for chocolate?
Yeah, I learned the hard way that you need to get Controlled Gravity and Gravity Mastering. Otherwise your capital ships are quite crippled ...
If you want their planets, and have military superiority, why don't you just send some Transports or Combat Transports and take the planet by force?
I believe it should have asked you if you wanted to submit when you finished the game. You type in your nickname and email address and it should work ...
I've noticed that the descriptions for some Starbase upgrade modules say somethinng like "such-and-such bonus for nearby planets." But it doesn't specifically say "in this sector" like some of the other upgrades do. Does anyone know what they mean by "nearby planets?"
Thanks again Ray!!
Do you remember the title of the other thread?
Where do these planets come from? The Sanderians just rose out of nowhere on a PQ 16 world. I know for a fact there was no PQ 16 world there. Do they create a new planet, or just raise the PQ of an existing one for these guys? Also, they seem to start out with every single technology that I have (maybe more, I'm not sure). Do I have any choice but to exterminate them immediately? I don't want them trading away techs that took me years to research and that no other AI has ... <b
Very interesting analysis Def Zep. Will try some of your suggestions in my next game. I'm definitely finding it true that the PQ 15-17 planets are the "speed-brake" in that their darn morale sinks so quick. But in some games (like my current one) there are no planets that started greater than 17. And that includes all the AIs. Not until Soil Enrichment, Habitats, etc. did they rise into the 20's.
Yes the Elerians, it might actually be worth digging up the MOO2 CD to get those graphics in there instead of the 'bot. But we digress ...
Yes of course Bobo is right, in the end it's all a matter of opinion. I was just so disappointed with MOO3 I wanted to test the waters and see other people's reactions. Sorry if this is already an old thread topic. There are some newbies here. How many little 'medals' do you see under my name? Hope to add some there soon, but job and life interfering too much with GalCiv playing!
Great, thanks!
Thanks to all responders. Definitely helps to know this stuff. Not so eager to rush to Battleship if I won't be able to do anything with them. Got to think BIG picture ...
Yesterday I needed to know what techs could extend my ship range. But I couldn't see an easy way to search JavaScout's site to find them. Gerakken did help me with that specific question (thanks!) but just wondering for the future. And by the way JavaScout, THANK YOU!! I'm sure I'm not the first to express the joy of discovering your excellent site.
Yes, the custom ship design was one of the nicer features of the MOO series. But it certainly didn't compensate enough ... The funny thing for me is that I would never have known about GalCiv if I hadn't bought a copy of MOO3 and saw the marketing glossy ad for GalCiv right there in the package. After being quickly disgusted with MOO3, I decided to give GalCiv a try. Boy am I glad I did ...
And is anyone as disappointed in MOO3 as I was?
See that little "Purchase" button on the left side of the screen? Ah, now you see it! And you will thoroughly enjoy the game too!
Matty-Matt, you're on the Forum! Cool! Here's my advice: Talk the wife into a cable-modem, then join Drengin.net. That's it, no more plugs for now ...
All good suggestions. Learn something new every day on this forum! DefZep: So you load 1 million people on a colony ship going to PQ 15-17 world? Doesn't it take a while for that pop to grow to anything useful? Other than beating the AI to the world of course ...
Thanks Gerakken, those are very helpful suggestions.
